Trace RBCs ; protein: This means there is a small amount of some source of rbcs ; protein in the urine and the meaning of this needs to be looked at with any other lab abnormalities, signs/symptoms, clinical context. Trace of protein: You need to have a 24 h hour urine collection to see how much protein in your urine/day. Protein excretion by a diseased kidney is not constant, rather it is sporadic over 24 hours. Rule out orthostatic: Many healthy young people have so called orthostatic proteinuria, i.e. Present when they are up & about but not at night when recumbent. It is benign. Mt bladder 2 hours after lying down, then have first voided am urine tested. Trace protein when found is usually benign.
