Low blood sugar: the only way you can really tell if it is low blood sugar is to do a glucose check when you are feeling shaky or lightheaded. I would suggest just making sure you eat a snack or a protein bar when you are feeling this way. Always eat a good breakfast in the morning. It starts off your day in the right way. I get dizzy during or right after a meal where i eat more sugar than usual (eg a piece of cake or a cookie). Should i be worried?

Probably not: Probably not. You don't usually feel high blood sugar unless its super high. Your body is just probably making a little extra Insulin to compensate for the blood sugar spike. This will make you feel a bit shaky and even dizzy. If you want to be sure, check your blood sugar when you are feeling the dizziness. ...Read more

Proper workup: Not all phyiscians know how to do a hypoglycemia workup, either fasting or postprandial. Missing an insulinoma will kill you. Even postprandial syndrome, which this might be, needs to be diagnosed and managed. Please get specialist consultation -- perhaps an endocrinology visit is in order. ...Read more

Doctor can evaluate: A pediatrician or family medicine doctor can evaluate to see where the problem is coming from. A person can start by eliminating added sugar from the diet. Limit fruit juice to 6 or 8 ounces a day, and replace the other sugared drinks with plain water. Not drinking enough water can lead to dizziness symptoms. Why would I get dizzy while eating? I have a history of low blood sugar but that isn't it as I have checked. Usually happens when very hungry.

Likely hypoglycemia: Likely due to an Insulin surge. A glucose tolerance test - if not already done - can more accurately reflect what actually happens after a sugar load is earlier ingested. Fasting morning glucose, the standard test, may miss this. Altering your diet may help prevent episodes. Frequent small snacks would help prevent the dizziness. If symptomatic, ingest candy or juice as soon as possible. ...Read more

Every morning and afternoon i get really dizzy light headed and have no idea where i am. Is it low blood sugar?

Every morning and afternoon i get really dizzy light headed and have no idea where i am. Is it low blood sugar?

No: In my 35 years of practice, I have never seen a case of reactive hypoglycemia. The disorder doesn't exist, if you're overweight the symptoms are a natural response to your glucose level returning to normal. A glucose tolerance test (if you've had one) is not and never will be a valid diagnostic test for hypoglycemia. Don't waste your money o GTT or any fad diets of treatments. Lose wt if heavy. ...Read more
