Why Do I Get Dizzy When I Cough
Cough and dizzy= sit: In general when you experience lightheaded or dizzy Ness after coughing or vomiting it is best to sit down. Most likely you are experiencing what is called a vasovagal episode. Basically you were stimulating the vagal nerve which slows your heart rate down. Most the time that should pass pretty quickly.
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
This can happen: Prolonged coughing/laughing can reduce the amount of blood being pumped from your heart and thus less blood getting to your brain causing temporary dizziness. This occurs more commonly with those having lower BP or with carotid stenosis (narrowing). Symptoms should be mild and brief, but you report "really dizzy", I suggest seeing doc for eval/treatment. Good luck.
Vasovagal: It sounds like your blood pressure drops when you bend over or cough... In the normal sense the body is reacting more than what it should. Also you might have to get your blood pressure checked to make sure it is not varying significantly in different positions like laying, sitting or standing. Lastly positional vertigo is a possibility.
See a Physician: There could be a numbers of causes and would recommend that you see a Physician ASAP as it is unusual to pass out from coughing without an underlying cause

Many possible causes: This could mean several things. Feeling dizzy or getting a headache after coughing, sneezing, bending forward or even exercise can be seen with several conditions that increase intracranial pressure (pressure inside the brain) or with chronic sinus disease. Please check with your doctor.

Hi I have a cold the past week&a cough. But when I cough I get dizzy, it's a v hard cough'& my head hurts too. What's causing the dizzyness. Thanks?
See below.: During cough pressure in chest rises dramatically and pushes against blood that is trying to flow into the chest cavity and heart from the lower body and head. Cough long and hard enough and flow drops to the point that heart does not have enough blood to push forward. Your brain starves a little for oxygen and sugar - therefore dizzy. A little dehydration can make this much worse.

If: If a chest x-ray has not been done then it is time. Depending on the results you may even need a ct (cat) scan of your chest. Also a blood test called a CBC should be done to look for clues as to the time of illness you are dealing with (bacterial or viral). A TB test should be done as well. As far as your question, "will the ms make it harder to get rid of this" I don't believe so, but the key is getting an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Good luck.
