Why do I get a constant cough without having the flu ?

Why do I get a constant cough without having the flu ?

Many causes: Allergies and post nasal drip could be the cause. You could have a more silent case of asthma too! there are other infections that cause cough that don't have flu like symptoms. Walking pneumonia is like this (chlamydia infection). A low grade pertussis (whooping cough) could cause this. When was your last DPT booster? I'd get it checked out. May be simple, may be complex? I have never been able to cough up phlegm I gag and then vomit. I currently have a chest cold and I can not get rid of the phlegm. Any suggestions?

Congestion: I don't think it is typically necessary to cough up phlegm. Try thinning it out by taking something like Guaifenesin and drinking lots of water. Don't just take the med without the water. Also try nasal saline rinse kit or neti pot if you have nasal congestion. The thinner phlegm should be absorbed by your body or swallowed and exit through the GI tract. See doctor if fever or not improving ...Read more

I have the flu and am having coughing (unproductive), and wheezing. Can I get an inhaler without seeing a doctor?

Would not suggest: First of all, you can not get an inhaler without a prescription. Secondly, diagnosing and treating yourself without a doctor exam is definitely the wrong thing to do. You can potentially kill yourself if you miss something. May I suggest going to an Urgicare center. It won't be a long wait and you'll get a better diagnosis and proper treatment. I took the flu vaccine in october and seem to have just caught the flu. I have fever, headaches, dry cough, pain all over. What should I do to recover?

FLU: Many viruses can give rise to flu-like symptoms. Again, flu vaccination doesn't prevent influenza 100%, but makes it milder if one gets. Drink a lot of fluid, some juice, tea, warm drinks. Ibuprofen 600 mg 6-8 hourly for fever and aches, take enough rest, shower 1-2/day. Can take a cough suppressant, otc or prescribed. If symptoms are worse, see your primary care physician. ...Read more
