Why Do I Crave Sugar In The Middle Of The Night
Depends: A diabetic with intact hypoglycemic response should wake up when bgs drop <70. However, if ur sugars are too low for too long, ur body gets use to it and your alarm may be set lower, for example...If ur bgs are usually 60's or you drop to 60's often, your body may not have symptoms until bg > 40's. ...Read more
How come I always bloat in the middle of the night when I eat too much sugar? I wake up bloated, hot, and feels like I can not breathe. Is this bad?
R/O IBS V ALLERGIES:
IBS = irritable bowel syndrome is a diagnosis of exclusion. You need a full exam and blood work. Especial screen for H pylori. Also stool screen x 3 for occult blood /parasite/hpylori. Also food allergy evaluation may need to be done.

How long do I have to fast before bloodwork? I'm type 1 diabetic and sometimes my blood sugar goes low in the middle of the night and I have to eat. Is there anything I can eat to avoid having to wait all day to eat anything in order to pass this blood wo
U can't with a low: If you have a low blood sugar in the middle of the night, you have to treat it. That would put a kink in morning fasting labs. My concern would be to prevent the lows; you shouldn't have to feed your diabetes to get thru the night. The problem is to sort out why you're having overnight lows and prevent them. Please discuss with ur doc. Fasting is going 8-12 hours without food. ...Read more
Why do I wake in the night and crave sugar? I'm not a diabetic. I do wake a lot during the night & never feel refreshed upon waking. Thank you.
If you are: Overweight, you probably have developed Insulin resistance, and what you are experiencing may be a return of your blood sugar to normal after excessive Insulin levels. If so, ; you have a family history of diabetes, get instructed on a diet, exercise and weight loss program. Check w/your doctor -- metformin may help prevent progression to true diabetes. It's a progression, not a sudden diagnosis. ...Read more
Should I eat fruits late at night or is it too much sugar for that hour? And after what time is it best not to eat.
My sugar level has been up, 350 last night, 260 this am, my vision is blurry, working on bringing sugar level down, how long till vision is better?
Weeks: High blood sugar causes fluid shifts in the body. The lens can become warped by these changes, thereby affecting vision. These effects are very variable in duration (days to weeks). Because diabetes can cause other problems with the eye (retinal bleeding and swelling), an eye exam would be warranted to ensure the health of the eyes. ...Read more
I'm hypoglacemic but not diabetic. If I have a lot of sugar at night & then take my sugars the next morn will the readings be high? Like 10.6 fasting?
Frequent small meals: Usually suffice for maintaining bs during the day. At night, it's good to have a starchy or complex 20-25 gram carb before bedtime. I do suggest that you or your friend seek a medical evaluation to see if there is an endocrine case such as adrenal insufficiency or insulinoma (rare). If family history is positive for hypoglycemia then it's poosible that it may be due to a potassium channel defect. ...Read more

Protein: When the blood sugar drops at night this is usually due to a high carbohydrate meal at night or imbalanced Insulin and glucagon levels - the hormones that regulate blood sugar. Insulin lowers blood sugar, while glucagon elevates the blood sugar. If we need to keep the level up at night I have the patient eat protein at night, as protein elevates glucagon. ...Read more
Why is my fasting blood sugar so high in the morning even though I ate low carbb the night before?
High AM glucose: The dawn rise of glucose (g) is part of the body's "getting ready for the day. It does this by secreting more cortisol and growth hormone. The liver also releases g "getting ready for the day, raising g. People on on Insulin (i) can time its dose to peak closer to the morning hours. Those not on I can take metformin to lower the levels of g secreted by liver. These actions can reduce your high g. ...Read more

I tested my blood sugar, 1st night it was 138, next am 112. Is that a concern for a 45 yr old, 20lbs heavy? Should it always be under 100? See a dr?
Needs context: A blood sugar of 138 would be considered high if it were a fasting value. But it would be normal if obtained within two hours of a meal. An am sugar of 112 is slightly high if you are fasting. Talk to your doctor about further testing including fasting and 2 hour post meal testing. You may also benefit from A1c testing which gives the doctor info about average sugar levels over 2-3 months. ...Read more

My father has sugar which is ok from night to mornings. From day to evenings its high. Should he be taking more dose of meds during day than evenings.
Too little info: Diabetes requires multiple interventions. Diet and exercise are the two most important. If the diet is really well controlled and your sugars are still high you need to track them. Then take that to your doctor who can adjust your dosing of insulin. DO NOT INCREASE INSULIN YOURSELF, unless you have a sliding scale from your doctor. ...Read more
I am doing novolog 2xday 40 units and a pill once I eat small meals except at night I tend to eat more my sugar results have been 400 &^, what wrong?
Sugar Log: When are you taking your blood glucose? When are you getting the 400 readings- is this before or after eating? It's possible that you may need a sliding scale for extra Insulin if you are eating more at a certain time of day. Or you may need to increase your second dose of the NovoLog which I assume you take later in the day? Keep a sugar log and discuss with your doctor. ...Read more
