Why Do I Crave Cashews
Genetics: We are programmed to recognize sweets in food and the taste is genetically pleasing to us. This has survival value in times of deprivation but is a shortcut to diabetes and obesity in times of plenty. Sweets can also provide a comforting feeling when other aspects of our life are not ideal. ...Read more
Feeling hot: I do not believe anyone has studied this phenomenon with pickles, but it is possible that when you are hot, you lose salt in your sweat and pickles are high in salt, therefore, it is possible that your body's inclination to replace the salt makes you crave pickles. You may get different points of views from other physicians ...Read more
PICA: Pica is a pattern of eating non-food materials, such as dirt. It is seen more in young children than adults. Between 10 & 32% of children ages 1 - 6 have these behaviors. It can also occur during pregnancy. A lack of certain nutrients, such as iron deficiency anemia and zinc deficiency, may trigger the unusual cravings. Pica may also occur in adults who crave a certain texture in their mouths. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Nightshades: In some people, foods from the nightshade family (eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes [not yams or sweet potatoes, which come from other plant families], etc) are pro-inflammatory. They contain components which can irritate your digestive system, producing diarrhea. Also this can contribute to the junctions between cells lining your GI system becoming "leaky" and leading to additional problems. ...Read more
What to do if I do not eat unhealthy (i.e I hate soda and never eat fast food). I do eat some not so great foods, what foods should I avoid?
At least you care: Hi. I congratulate you for caring about your diet. The average American diet sucks. My simple "avoid" list: fast food, processed food, saturated fat, high fat, white flour, white rice, sugar. The "do eat" list: whole grains, legumes, nuts, fruits & veggies, lean meats, healthy oils (canola & olive), nonfat dairy. And of course exercise regularly and don't smoke. To your good health! ...Read more
Consider allergy?: Perhaps there can be some type of allergy you have with eggs? My suggestion would be to keep a food diary of everything you eat along with how you feel after those meals. See if there is a correlation with eggs and your symptoms of diarrhea. You may find it could be something else you are eating as well! ...Read more
Nobody knows: The key is that you get the iron deficiency managed. I got myself iron deficient with overzealous blood donations and discovered that the chew-the-ice stuff is real. Rice cakes are a popular second -- anything big and crunchy and relatively tasteless seems to appeal to the iron-deficient. I notice that you list other meds but not an iron supplement, and no sign of a workup. Find the cause & get Rx ...Read more
