Can anyone suggest any advice how to handle flea bites? We have a few recently and they have only bit my wife. She says it's painful and itches bad
Flea bites: For the discomfort of the bites, I would apply an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream twice a day. If the bites become increasingly painful or form pus, she should see a doctor to rule out a secondary bacterial infection of the bites. Maybe Scabies?: Possible that you've been bitten again by more fleas--or you may have contracted scabies. Scabies are mites that burrow under the skin, and cause profound itching. Benadryl, (diphenhydramine) lotion: Try some over the counter benadryl (diphenhydramine) 25 mg every 6-8 hours for the itching. Here's some other things to help: 1) keep skin cool, heat makes itching worse 2) use lotion, dry is tichy, 3) avoid friction, rubbing skin causes itchy skin to be more itchy. Over-the-counter med: For flea bites, one can take claritin, zyrtec, or Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to block histamine that causes itching. Hydrocortisone 1% cream 2-3 times a day on the bites for about 5 days will help them go away. For more itch relief, one can put an anti-itch gel such as "itch-x" on bites.
