Why Could An Umbilical Cord Not Fall Off In Two Weeks
Why is my two weeks old baby still bleeding from the umbilical cord after it has fallen off within the first week?
Not unusual: It is not unusual for there to be some minor spotting/oozing from the cord area even after the stump has come off. Thee were 3 huge blood vessels there and sometimes there is a bit of spotting. The second possibility is something called an umbilical granuloma, where a fragment of cord is still present and actively bleeds down within the umbilicus. Have pediatrician check this at next visit. ...Read more
1 weeks: The umbilical cord usually falls off in the first 7-10 days. May take up to two weeks. If you were told to clean with alcohol, then do so once a day. Cleaning every diaper change with alcohol keeps it too clean and delays falling off.Once it falls off it will stink for a week or so. Then you can clean every change with alcohol. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
When should the umbilical cord stump fall off? My baby is 15 days old and it's still firmly attached. I'm starting to worry it won't ever fall off.
Second child (son) born on New Year's Day. Umbilical cord starting to fall off and has a white ooze coming out and smells bad. No redness. This ok?
Needs attention: If baby is feeding well and there is no redness, I would suggest starting with gently lifting the cord remnant and cleansing the cord where it attaches to the body with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip now and again in several hours. Keep the area dry by folding the diaper down. If it continues to ooze, I strongly recommend that your infant be checked by his doctor who is better able to assess infect. ...Read more
11day new baby and the umbilical cord hasn't fallen off & red in the belly button when should it fall off? Or should I c her dr? No discharged or odor
Umbilical cord: A newborn's umbilical cord falls off anywhere between 1 and 3 weeks. Keeping it dry is the key for it falling off sooner. I recommend using a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean just the area where the cord attaches to the skin during diaper changers and fold the diaper top down toward the skin to keep urine from getting the cord wet. Have you pediatrician look at it at the 2 week check. ...Read more
Not much of a cord: During the first month there is a lot going on in development but there is not much of a cord as you may visualize it. A lot of the embryonic work goes on in a mass of tissue attached to a thick stalk. At about 30 days a crude cord is forming. The fetal cord has the ability to grow longer under tension. I've seen one 9 feet long compared to the nl 3. The only one i know snapped happened @ birth. ...Read more
