Also the taste buds in the top part of the tongue are long and "finger-like." the anatomy of the taste buds and this keratin layer can sometimes make the tongue look "hairy." this is completely benign. Scrubbing your tongue is not needed and cause harm. ...Read more

Why do I get a little bump on the tip of my tongue when I eat a lot of sugar? Its really painful I cant sleep. Help.
AnswerOnTipOMyTongue: That's God's way of telling you not to eat a lot of sugar! People can have sensitivities to lots of different foods (walnuts and bananas are common; sugar is unusual). Often the sensitivity shows-up on the tongue as a red patch, superficial ulcer or a little bump. Any of these can be painful. They usually go away relatively quickly (like a day or two). Is white tongue always oral thrush? Asthma, otherwise healthy. No oral steroids. Albuterol only. Use 4/ day. No ins. Cant get controller meds.
No: White tongue is not always oral thrush. If your tongue does not hurt or bleed when the white coating is scraped away with something blunt like a tongue depressor it is not likely to be thrush. I suggest brushing your tongue with a toothbrush and rinsing with a good quality mouthwash and seeing if that helps. It may be just bacterial overgrowth. You could also take a probiotic. ...Read more
Should I see a doctor? Do I have tonsil stones? Okay so about a year ago my tongue developed white bubbles in the back. I figured it'd go away so I ignored it. Then, my tongue started to get white stuff on it, which I would scrap off but it'd come back so
Depends: Tonsil stones are little white stones visible in the tonsils (located on the lateral areas of your throat). People with tonsil stones feel like there is "something annoying" stuck in their throat and are constantly trying to clear it. A film on your tongue is not unusual. Most people need to brush or scrape their tongue regularly to clean this film away. ...Read more

What'sImportantIsYou: Don't get all compulsive about not eating breakfast. If you feel OK and aren't hungry just wait 'till you get hungry. In fact, there's current thinking about that whole breakfast myth. Good for the food industry but maybe not you. I'm not hungry in the morning. Except for a few stomach growls I'm fine till 2, sometimes 3:30 pm. But each person is different. Don't fall into the group-think hype. ...Read more

Yes, it is possible: Cancer can strike any part of the mouth, including the lips and tongue. If the cancer is not detected early, tumors can grow deep into local tissues and spread to lymph glands in the neck. The risk for oral cancer increases with age and alcohol and tobacco use. Only biopsy can support the diagnosis. Take care. ...Read more

Usually, yes: Usually I see a harmless coating consisting of dead bacteria, dead cells from the tongue, all combined with a mucous and saliva mixture that coats the tongue.
