Yes: Tablet form can be taken with food. Some taking it on an empty stomach has cause stomach upset. There is no interaction with antacid but theoretically antacid coats the lining of the stomach and may delay the absorption.
The liquid form should be taken on an empty stomach because it's absorption is variable with food. ...Read more

I'm taking azithromycin, I know in supposed to avoid antacids. Can I take it with nuun electrolyte tablets which have magnesium sulfate? I am having diarrhea thus the nuun.

Ok: Taking Azithromycin and magnesium should not be a problem. However if you're having diarrhea on the antibiotics that might be more of an issue. I would probably follow up with the doctor prescribing the medicine. ...Read more

I take ranitidine or omeprazole for reflux. Need to begin azithromycin (z-pack). How long to wait between meds since zith is not good with antacids?

Several hours: Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium salts (maalox, mylanta) will decrease the absorption of azithromycin, allow several hours between dosing. On the other hand taking omeprazole/azithromycin may result in increased concentration of either drugs thus watch/report increase abdominal distress. Ranitidine may be a better alternative with least reported interaction with azithromycin. Take care. ...Read more

Why can't an antacid be taken when also taking azithromycin?

Why can't an antacid be taken when also taking azithromycin?

Binds the medication: Many medications should not be taken with antacids. Either it will inhibit absorpton by binding or it will change the acid or base of the stomach and make the medication ineffective. Usually it binds the med and keep it from being absorbed. Always ask your pharmacist or physcian if concerned. Very imortant with medications like
thyroid medicaiton. ...Read more

I took azithromycin-500mg, 1gm, 1gm for chlamydia, but last two days I took alcohol and also digene tablet (antacid), should I have to repeat the course?

I took azithromycin-500mg, 1gm, 1gm for chlamydia, but last two days I took alcohol and also digene tablet (antacid), should I have to repeat the course?

No: Neither of these should affect the zithromax you took. Be sure that your partner gets checked too and don't have sex with him until you know he doesn't have chlamydia too. Remember that only condoms will protect you from std's, and even those aren't 100% all the time. ...Read more

I took azithromycin dose for chlamydia and 2 hours later took antacid pill bc my stomach was hurting. Did I mess up effect of azithromycin?

I took azithromycin dose for chlamydia and 2 hours later took antacid pill bc my stomach was hurting. Did I mess up effect of azithromycin?

Common Side Effect: Nausea and belly pain are a common side effects of azithromycin at the dose used to treat chlamydia. Taking an antacid that far after the azithromycin dose is unlikely to change the antibiotic effect, so don't worry about that. Please be sure that you were also tested for gonorrhea since co-infection with chlamydia is a common problem. I hope that you are feeling better. ...Read more

Took azithromycin first dose 500mg, couldn't take the rest. Was prescribed for a sinus issue. When will it be out of my system?

Took azithromycin first dose 500mg, couldn't take the rest. Was prescribed for a sinus issue. When will it be out of my system?

Azithromycin: Has a very long "half life" thus it will gradually decrease to half in 68 hours then half of that in another 68 hours. WHY are you asking?? You have not had enough to treat your sinus condition BUT you can start a new antibiotic NOW without waiting for the Azithromycin to "leave completely"!

Hope this helps!

I was prescribed Azithromycin yesterday for abnormal discharge as well as an odor. It said on the bottle take four tablets once daily. My pharmacist told me to take all four in one day. I took it yesterday but I still haven't noticed a change.?

STD? BV? Trich?: The most common causes of vaginal discharge with odor are bacterial vaginosis and the STD trichomonas. Neither of these is effectively treated with azithromycin. Perhaps you have something else. If you have tested positive for chlamydia, the normal treatment is just one dose of azithromycin, 2 grams (4 tablets, 250 mg each). It takes a few days for symptoms to clear up. Check with your doctor. ...Read more

Is it ok to take Cialis while on azithromycin?

It depends: The context is important here. If Azithromycin is taken for a sexually transmitted infection such as chlamydia, then absolutely not! Aperiod of 2 weeks is recommeneded if you planto be intimate with some one else. If the abx is being taken for a pneumonia, then it should be ok, but I think it is more prudent to refrain from sexual activity until you have recovered from an infection. ...Read more
