YES & wise to exceed: I advise everyone take a good multivit. Daily. It is surprisingly difficult to get optimal nutrition from our diet. We are all exposed to many environmental toxins & vitamins help to protect us. The rda is only for the average healthy person to prevent gross deficiencies & has nothing to do with optimal dosage. For example, the rda of vit d is 400 iu but we need at least 5000 iu/day. See comment:. ...Read more
What are some good smoothie recipes to make to assue my daily intake of all vitamins and minerals?
I am taking 325mg of aspirin daily for small cryogentic stroke. Should I be watching my vitamin-k intake? I
No: Vitamin K has an impact on warfarin (Coumadin) because it is a a part of the coagulation pathway - the various proteins in blood that come together when activated to form a clot, aspirin has its effect on a different part of coagulation, the platelets making them "less sticky" and less likely to form a clot. Eat all the salad you want. ...Read more
Supplement: Vegans have the moral high ground and possibly some health benefits, though when we control for the fact that vegetarians tend to have other healthy habits, the good effect tends to disappear. However, if you do not supplement, you'll ruin your health in as little as a few weeks or months. Get with a sensible, evidence-based physician in your community who's vegan-friendly if you've "gone vegan". ...Read more
Why does 2000 IU vitamin D daily intake gives me anxeity, even when not taking on a regular basis and with a low serum vit D concentration?
2KUIus of D is a: Relatively low dose. I've not heard of this being a cause of anxiety. Anxiety may be the real issue. I'm 32 I am currenty very low in vitamin d. I am on 10, 000 iu of vit D3 since yesterday. I have got some magnesium too what is the daily intake of ma?
Taking Prenatal Vitamins contains iron 27mg as I got off of BCP 3 mths ago. Is that too much of an iron intake daily, in the long run? Not preg yet
No: The average dietary need for iron in young adult women is about 18 mg/d. The PNV you cite has 27 but only 1/3 is absorbed. In the long run this will not produce an overload. The body actually accommodates changes in diet & iron load by selectively not absorbing any excess over the day to day exposures. You can overdose acutely by taking lots of pills (kids sometimes do) but I wouldn't worry. ...Read more
My fluid daily intake is excessive, almost a cup an hour. Vitamin D deficiency 10.2, I urinate 8 times a day, sometimes twice an hour. Is this normal?

Am a patient on daily warfarin needing to limit vitamin k intake. A kiwi fruit has 70% of recommended k as listed on label. Is this too much K?
Vitamin K: Yes Kiwi would have higher levels than you would want. You need to avoid Vitamin K1. Warfarin will effect bone density and can cause osteoporosis and increase calcium deposits in the arteries of the heart. You may take vitamin K2M7 up to 100 mcg daily to avoid these side effects without affecting your INR. Other foods high in K are spinach, broccoli, cabbage, liver, egg yolks and tomatoes ...Read more
How many IUs of vitamin D2 and IUs of vitamin D3 does an adult male vegan need on a daily basis? Does it depend on his calcium intake? Is it ok to take vitamin D in morning pills and take in calcium in different meals throughout the day?
The Office: Of Dietary Supplements of National Institutes of Health's (odd. Od.nih. Gov) Recommended Dietary Allowance is 600 IU/day for males 19-50 years. As a vegan, it would be difficult to get in diet as principle sources are fatty fish, eggs, fortified milk. Vitamin D2 and D3 can be considered equivalent; most supplements are D3 (you don't need both). AM dosing ok; calcium recommendation is 1000 mg/d. ...Read more

Recommended daily intake for: b-complex, vitamin b-12, vitamin a, vitamin k, vitamin e, magnesium and potassium?
Depends: If you look at any multivitamin bottle, there will be a rda (recommended daily allowance) for the different components. There is very little evidence out there that surpassing rda will treat or prevent any disease. From my field (ophthalmology), people who have moderate to severe macular degeneration can benefit from higher levels of a, c, e, and zinc, but the benefit is relatively small. ...Read more

Have GERD so take PPIs (pantoprazole) daily. Will this affect my absorption of vitamins and nutrients? If so, should I take supplements? Thanks
Can I take probiotics and vitamins with Nexium (esomeprazole) in order to ensure my daily nutrients? I do NOT want to lack in anything. If yes, when should I take it
Yes, this is wise because Nexium (esomeprazole) disrupts GI flora and reduces absorption of nutrients, esp. minerals. I advise taking Nexium (esomeprazole) for a few months at the most. It treats symptoms but does not cure. Take probiotics at start of a meal after Nexium (esomeprazole) and a good m ultivitamin on empty stomach before. See

Probably-depends on:: Our bodies require 13 different vitamins: A, C, D, E, K and 8 diff. B vitamins. So which ones are you talking about? You should not need 3 diff. Multivitamins, but the only ones that can be toxic are A, D, E, K and B6 and you have to take massive doses of those to become toxic, more than would be present even in 3 multiivitamins, unless you are pregnant, in which case you should limit A to 8000 iu/day. ...Read more
