Why Are These Conditions Accompanied By Great Deal Of Pain
I have a tooth with a large hole. I have a great deal of pain today, as well as a fever and chills.
Infection: A tooth infection, just like any other infection, mandates immediate treatment. Fever/chills indicate your immune system is battling the infection and losing. Can cause heart, kidney, brain, liver, pancreas, damage. Can damage adjacent bone, gums teeth. You must see Dentist, Endodontist, or Oral Surgeon immediately. Your infection can be quite dangerous. ...Read more
What would cause a foul smell with a discharge from the belly button? There is also a great deal of pain in my abdomen.
Uracheal cyst: Among many other potentially more serious diagnoses such as cancer, fistulae, ruptured umbilical hernia, etc... The most common condition causing the problem is a uracheal cyst remnant that's draining. Get it looked at. You'll need antibiotics and likely a resection of the cyst if it persists. ...Read more

Immediate attention: A shock from a defibrillator requires immediate attention by your cardiologist. It is likely inappropriate shocks you got from the clinical scenario that you described but needs immediate confirmation as it can be a sign of technical failure such as electrode fracture or a rapid arrhythmia which requires urgent attention. I had carpal tunnel surgery with removal of ganglion cyst 1 month still having a great deal of pain, heat and swelling in my hand. Normal?
No not normal: There are four main signs of inflammation: pain, heat, redness, and swelling. Those are signs that the immune system is activated. After a surgery there can be inflammation and it's normal for a few days. If it is present a month later it is concerning that there is either infection, or some kind of immune activation. It's worth getting it checked out right away by your surgeon. ...Read more
Query: Superstition?: Do you mean your OWN superstitions or other people's? Magical thinking is a disorder in psychiatry but is the basis of religion, so there you go. Modern brain research suggests that magical thinking is a human "cognitive default;" we're (unfortunately) programmed that way. ("Teleological thinking") We instinctively connect things even when there's no evidence for it, in fact especially when none. ...Read more
It can be a big deal: I do not know the specifics of your situation, but it can cause depression and anxiety, behavior tat is toxic to others, and a failure to empathize with others that leads to unhappiness in those close to you. There is often a failure to prioritize, with the narcissist placing job and money above family. It can alienate people from you. Please get therapy as it can be helped. Empathy is key to tx. ...Read more
Why is it that doctors just dismiss concerns that your having with your body like it is no big deal? Still not feeling well so what's the next step?
Be open: And forthright a second time with same doctor and consider a second opinion. Bring someone with you to appointment. Consider writing your symptoms out with dates/times and impact on your life. Number them. Show it to doctor. Ask them for advice on each one. Doctors have off days too. ...Read more

What should I do with a friend that has been unsupportive and said hurtful things to me about infertility with my wife and i? Should I just shut him out of my life? He lives far away from me, so it wouldn't be a big deal if I did.
Turn the other cheek: If you care about your friend, then let him know you are hurt and then move on and talk about other things... As in the bible, turn the other cheek... My guess is that he doesn't mean to hurt you. .. If he does, he is not your friend. ...Read more
Ocd I have deals with some numbrs and right timing to do things or have done. Not everything just big events that seem importnt. How to overcome this?
Get OCD treatment: You could be evaluated by a psychologist to start with -- cognitive behavioral therapy can be very helpful in ocd. Medications may also be helpful, but I would start with psychotherapy first. Getting help can lead to relief, and turning around the struggle you've been in. Good luck to you. ...Read more
In september I was hit by a semi sense then I have lost a great deal of my memory and have been dealing with flash backs at night. What should I do?
Do you think my psychiatrist may hold certains medications from my treatment because she doesn't deal with certain distributors? Great dr but curious
Highly Unlikely: It is unethical for us to prescribe medicines just because those drug companies want us too. We are expected and almost always do treat with the most appropriate medication for each individual. Sometimes your insurance formulary may limit what you can afford to take, and there are some docs (like me) who won't use a brand new medicine unless it's been on the market a year or two, just to be safe. ...Read more
Is alcohol bad 4 all people with bi-polar? Or just some? It seems 2 cause mania & a great deal of aggression almost everytime my friend drinks!?
Every morning I awake with a great deal of saliva that is mixed with blood... My gums are swollen and bleed when I brush as well! What's this?
Bleeding disorder: While I hope that dr. Bansal's assessment is correct I agree that dr. Villaplana's concerns need to be addressed. It really depends on what you mean by "every morning". If this problem has been present for years then you probably have gingivitis. If the problem began a few weeks ago I would be concerned about leukemia. Please see your doctor very soon for assessment and reassurance. ...Read more

Can trapped gas cause a GREAT deal of stomach discomfort? It came on suddenly. Not the typical pain associated with stomach virus.
Sure can!: I had gas pain that was worse than my later appendicitis. Gas-X (simethicone) helps a lot. But bad pain needs to be evaluated if it does not go away quickly with simethicone or an antacid. Splenda and sorbitol candies and drinks, also gave me pain worse than labor pain! Never again! ...Read more
Is it really big deal if I have cream in coffee 7 hrs before fasting blood work? I find it hard to believe that could badly mess with results.
Fasting Blood Work: Well it may or may not "mess with the results" as you say. It depends on what is being tested for. Are you waiting until afternoon to get the blood work done because that is when your appointment is? Why not go to the office as soon as they open to get your blood work? Then you can have your coffee and cream. If your fasting sugar is 125 you don't have diabetes, if 126 you do. Any difference? ...Read more
