Most believe it's so: There has been lots of research that suggests that this is true. I don't know of any findings that refute it. I do suppose that it is still true that a person with low susceptibility can find themselves with a bad drinking problem if they try hard enough. It just might take more effort. Good question: One - because many people give lip service to the disease concept, but believe in their heart of hearts that this individual is making a choice, and it is a bad choice. Alcoholics' behaviors affect and hurt ones they love and care about, and this makes people angry - they take it personally.
