Left neck vein bulges. Is that left heart failure?

Left neck vein bulges. Is that left heart failure?

Probably not: First, neck vein distension can be caused by many things, only one of which is heart failure. Second, if it were due to heart failure, it would likely be on both sides, and then would reflect problems on the right heart. But since the most common cause of right heart failure is left heart failure, neck vein distension is a sign of heart failure. But not likely in you. Talk to your own doctor. ...Read more

Heart Failure (Definition)

This can be due to poor squeezing function (systolic heart failure) and/or a stiff heart incapable of filling normally (diastolic heart failure). Totally garbled: Sorry, your post makes no sense at all. You seem to have some extremely fanciful notions about health & disease & what causes what. Either you've totally misunderstood what you've been told, or someone's deliberately trying to hoodwink you; or else you've jumped to the completely wrong conclusion that each of these events caused the next when in fact they just HAPPENED to occur in that order. ...Read more

My left jugular vein is very distended when my head is below my heart and neck feels swollen, feel pressure in chest, could this be heart failure?

Could be normal: when the head is below your heart the jugular can get distended and the upper body can feel "congested". If you are ok when the had is at chest level and sitting up, and if you are able to walk quickly, slow jog without significant shortness of breath or chest discomfort the heart failure is unlikely. Symptoms of heart failure include exercise intolerance, air hunger lying flat and leg swelling. ...Read more
