Edema & arthritis: Hi. I suspect the two are unrelated. There are many causes of edema. Edema is worsened by gravity during the day while you're up and about, and gets better overnight as the fluid can mobilize without fighting gravity (at the expense of making you pee at night). Could be...: This could be simply neuropathy (pinched nerve incited by position, such as lying supine) or something more serious such as reduced blood flow to the extremities (claudication in peripheral artery disease).
