You may have pollen in your hair and cause issues for your eyes overnight. Wash your hair at night to see if it helps.
Patanol is a twice daily medicine so if not using an evening dose you may need to dose twice.

Heat, age, hygiene: It is most likely dried tears and discharge from blepharitis-gets worse when its hotter, poor lid hygiene and aging. Regular lid hygiene with occaisional topical antibiotics controls it. Warm compress with lid scrubs.
