Why Are My Bowel Movements So Large
The gastrointestinal tract starts at the mouth, travel down the tunnel (esophagus), which connects to the stomach, which then empties into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum---the three parts of the small intestine (@25 feet). This empties into the colon or large intestine (about 5 feet), which then becomes the sigmoid colon, rectum and out the anus. So, every morsel eaten ...Read more
Not normal...: The normal range of bm frequency is from 3 stools bms per day to 1 bm every 3 days. Your frequency falls outside the range of normal. The longer the stool sits in the colon is associated with greater risk of colon cancer. I suggest you eat more fiber, get more active, drink more water or use a gentle laxative to have more frequent bms. You may want to see a gastroenterologist. Good luck! ...Read more
Hemorrhoid/fissure: As the stool passes through the rectum and the anus, it can irritate internal hemorrhoids if they are present, or create a 'cut' in the lining of the anus, called a fissure. Both can bleed, and be precipitated by passage of a large hard stool. ...Read more

Fissure in ano: It sounds as if you may have an anal fissure. This can be incredibly painful and could also be infected. You should apply warm compresses or sit in hot water 4-6 times a day, dry off thoroughly and apply a soothing ointment after each soak. The corn in my bowel movement today was bright green. Can this be caused by eating a large amount of pineapple chunks the day after the corn?
My son us bleeding from his rectum when he has a bowel movement. His bowels are kinda hard n big could it be causing that?? He said he wasn't hurt.
Yes: Kids with hard or bulky stools or some that push out too fast will cause a crack in the outlet. This deposits bright red blood on the outside of the BM. It tends to recur as long as the stool is hard/bulky. Going more often, or using a stool softener like miralax can help over time. I've never seen a kid with a hemorrhoid. ...Read more

Good food, probiotic:
If your son overall looks good, appetite and activity are normal and his belly is not tender on pressing, then it is likely just constipation. It is quite common in kids.
Give him Probonix probiotics (1 dropperful daily), some sweet potato and avocado. Stop gluten. Reduce milk.
His bowels should get better in 2-4 days. If not, then contact his PCP. For severe symptoms, have him be seen asap. ...Read more

Despite having have 1 large and 2 small bowel movements today, I still feel the need to go. When I try I can pass very small stools. Why is this?
Depending on: Your age and duration of symptoms, this can be a worrisome sign. It could also be benign as in cases of constipation predominant IBS or transient infection with swelling of the gut wall. If ongoing, discuss this with a physician. ...Read more

Ate a pretty big slice of watermelon, next day had bowel movement and saw small red pieces in parts of my stool. Is the watermelon the cause of this?
