I have post nasal drip a chest pain and a cough from the centre of my chest in deep a whooping sound - could it be TB I previously worked with homelss?
Cough? TB: Hi ~ of course possible ~ highly unlikely. Its not easy to get TB if you healthy, not living in CLOSE confines of a CONFIRMED case. Whooping you could have one of the other whooping coughs There's 3: bordetella pertussis - u were vaccinated for sure, 2. bordetella parapertussis - u could have that and 3. bordetella bronchiesepticum, unlikely since its vetinary. Viruses make u whoop too ...Read more
Coughing followed by a "whooping" sound is a symptom meaning a person is coughing so frequently that he does not have enough time in between coughs to take a normal breath. Get checked: Non-productive cough that is wheezy and worsened at night or by respiratory irritants is likely asthma, but there are other possibilities (chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, etc) that are also worth checking out. See a lung specialist or your primary care doctor if you can't see a specialist without a referral. ...Read more
My 7 year old son has had a chronic dry cough for about 2 1/2 months. I gave him singular did not work, he had chest xrays all good, lungs sound great, they did a "whooping cough test" negative. Cough meds do not work. No fever, acts like a healthy 7 year
The cause of a chronic cough can be a very tricky problem to figure out in kids or adults. Common causes include:
-pertussis (whooping cough)
-pneumonia or other infectious cause such as tuberculosis
it looks like your son's doctor has been doing a good job thinking of these problems and trying to rule out each one with the tests and medication trials they have been suggesting. Most of these problems will cause coughing all night as well as during the day except for habit cough. I've attached a website with some information on habit cough which is very common in kids. I hope this helps. ...Read more

I have 3wks baby and his having a cold and it sounds like a bit cough. What kind of treatment should I gave him? I'm also breast feeding having a cold
Likely viral illness:
It is indeed winter time and colds/flu are everywhere. If baby is not having fever and still feeding, sleeping well, and urinating/stooling normally, no treatment needed. Nasal suction/saline drops for stuffy nose may suffice. If more severe symptoms and baby not feeding well, I recommending seeing his doc asap because he is only 3 wks old.
Congrats on the baby and good luck. ...Read more

"Weird"?: It might be surprising, if you're not expecting a "whoop" to come out of you when it does -- and could possibly feel weird. The question is whether these are voluntary "whoops", which can express joy or excitement, or involuntary ones. If it's the latter, it may be a type of tic disorder. And if this troubles you, you could consult with your primary care doctor, or a psychiatrist. Good luck. ...Read more
No: Asthma is usually a breathing out noise, except in its more severe form when patients wheeze breathing in and out. My one month old baby has a whooping sound without cough for 2 weeks duration, I notice that after this sound as if something irritating her throat.?
Likely a weak airway: Some infants can develop a rather worrisome breathing pattern that make a lot of noise from their rubbery airways. Some have an airway that is more rubbery than normal & make a crowing sound as they inhale & or exhale. I would have this checked out by your doc early next week. ...Read more

I had whooping cough as a child. I have been coughing (barking sound) for the past 3 days, producing green secretions. Do I need to see Dr?
Your whooping cough and current cough have no real relationship
Recently there have been many several cases of viral respiratory bronchitis that developed into a secondary bacterial infection causing one to produce greenish yellow secretions. Often adults may not have a fever but the cough does have a barking quality. If you have secreations inform your doctor. You may need to be treated wi t ...Read more
My 6 week old daughter has been making a whooping sound since birth, mainly when she gets excited. No coughing is involved. But is this normal?
Rubbery airways: Infants have airways that are very flexible that become stiffer as they age. In some this is quite noticeable, particularly if excited as they draw air in and vibrate the walls. The squeak or croup can increase after birth as the become more active but tends to fade after 6 mo. An evaluation by an ENT that can visualize the airway can confirm the issue. ...Read more
My one week old daughter just coughed should I be concerned? It didn't have a whooping sound nor did it sound like a smokers cough. No high temperature
Babies cough: And sneeze, and make all kinds of noises. I understand, especially with new parents, that anything out of the ordinary can be scary, but a cough can occur with a temporary aspiration of saliva. If it is persistent, if the baby has a temperature, if there are breathing problems, then see your pediatrician. If not, enjoy your baby more and worry less! ...Read more

My son is 13 months, he has had his flu and dtap vaccine...Is it still possible for him to have what sounds like whooping cough or is it croup?
Both possible: The vaccine provides good but not total protection from pertussis. If you are in an area where it has been found in the day care centers it is worth testing. The vaccine protects your kid from a severe case. The wc produces a continuous cough like a machine gun followed by a deep whoop (late in the illness).Croup seldom has more than 1-3 coughs before sounding like a seal bark. See your doc for eval. ...Read more

Cough, wheeze: A dry hacking cough accompanied by inspiratory wheezing is consistent with a type of asthma. If it's associated with a recent respiratory tract infection, it may be a temporary asthmatic bronchitis rather then chronic bronchial asthma. I recommend that you be examined by a physician or pulmonologist for diagnosis and treatment. In the meantime remove all dust collecting objects in your bedroom. ...Read more

A 4yr old has a cough and now sound like a "seal". Can this be whooping cough? Sneezing since tuesday. Mild cough then, but seems to have progressed. Slight chills, along with a sore throat. Seems very sleepy today.
More likely the child is suffering from croup. Croup is caused by swelling of larynx, which is due to a viral infection, such as parainfluenza virus.
