Do small white spots on MRI of brain indicate multiple sclerosis?

Do small white spots on MRI of brain indicate multiple sclerosis?

It depends: Like many things in medicine, it depends. Some of it depends on the patient's symptoms, age. Many people have "white spots" on mris; there can be non-specific small vessel white matter disease seen on the MRI of many individuals with a western diet. White spots on an MRI also can mean ms, but it is usually in a certain pattern that is more specific for ms. Discuss your MRI with your neurologist. ...Read more

Mri (Definition)

Mri or magnetic resonance imaging is one of the more recently developed imaging modalities available to physicians. It uses powerful magnets to generate images. There is no ionizing radiation which is a major advantage over many other modalities. Mri is the best imaging exam that we have for most soft tissue and joint related problems. There are radiologists ...Read more

Mri of brain showed thinning mylin and white spots as well as grey mass...could this along with other be MS?

MRI brain: The thinning myelin and white spots are often described in the usual aging of the brain. Multiple sclerosis (MS) plaques are commonly found along the corpus callosum, periventricular white matter, cerebellum, brain stem, and spinal cord. A lumbar puncture with analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid will make the diagnosis of MS. See a neurologist to discuss the MRI findings in the brain. ...Read more

What do white spots on the brain indicate on an MRI brain scan?

What do white spots on the brain indicate on an MRI brain scan?

Nonspecific: Scattered white spots confined to the white matter of the brain are fairly common and not specific for a certain disease. White spots in a person less than 50 yrs. Old, however, are usually abnormal and may be seen with multiple sclerosis among many other entities. As one ages, these are more likely due to tiny arterial blockages and are fairly common in people over 70 yrs. Old. ...Read more

Hello I've had 2 MRI brain scans for white spots on my brain and the expert doctors here still don't know what it is i need answers now! I've even had?

Many possibilities: Sounds like you're referring to t2 white matter hyper intensities. The possible causes are numerous. Developing some small spots is really fairly normal as one ages, but the devil is in the details of your films, your history, and your exam. Your neurologist would be best one to determine what these may be, if they are concerning, and if they require further investigation. ...Read more

Had normal brain MRI in 2014 (headaches and optical migraines). Doc mentioned white spots apparently from the headaches. It scared me tho. common?

Mixed bag: This web article is on point: http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/central/pvm.htm About half of normal folks over 65 have T2 abnormalities (white spots). Folks in their 40s with migraines can also present this way. It is nonspecific though so a repeat MRI in a patient with continued symptoms could be considered, mostly since there is little risk due to MRI in patients who can have them ...Read more

Had mri of brain came back abnormal, dr said I have sodium spot on brain. but did not go in to it any further. could this cause numbness in left leg?

White matter diseas?: I'm not sure what a "sodium spot" is, but if you've ever had trouble with your electrolytes before (hyponatremia), then it could be sign of central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) - perhaps a limited type. CPM can cause paralysis & numbness. Usually it's more dramatic. If the MRI report suggests "white matter disease", it can be from a stroke & cause numbness. W/o seeing report & MRI pics, hard to know ...Read more

What causes bright spots in 1 year old brain mri?

What causes bright spots in 1 year old brain mri?

Lots of things: "bright spots" on an MRI have various causes. They can range from benign, insignificant findings to infections, injuries, metabolic problems and more. An MRI is only a tool, and the findings need to be put in the context of the patient's clinical condition. Mri's are often ordered unnecessarily and then odd findings (like bright spots) can make a straightforward case much more confusing. ...Read more

I have dystonia and black spots on my mri brain scan - could the 2 be related? I had a rta nearly 4 years ago but symptoms since & worsened after 2yrs

Lesions found on : MRI's of the brain may be either unrelated to neurological symptoms or related to an active neurological disorder. History of progression of dystonia & other neurological symptoms, family history of dystonia & records of the cause & clinical course of Renal Tubular Acidosis aid a neurologist's decision to repeat an MRI of the brain for comparison & perform genetic & other medical studies. ...Read more

I have high calcium levels, brain MRI showed spots in white matter, pain on right side abdomin. Dr mentioned aphasia-can all these be realted? Im 41

Possible: Exact scenario may be hard. Need ct of chest, abdomen, & pelvis to rule out any cancer that could cause high calcium or sarcoidosis. If not done, need parathyroid and vitamin d levels. It may be that you take calcium or Tums that increased your calcium in blood which if high enough causes confusion and weakness. If so, brain findings may relate to a virus possibly herpes vs others. ...Read more

Daughter had brain MRI for big head, they found that bright spot not seen in prostery pituitary is not seen and antierior pituitary is 3 mm in height ?

Possibly something: MRI is used to see if there is too much fluid in the brain (hydrocephalus), but other findings can be found. Brain Tumor per se is NOT presented this way. Heridtary Diseases that give Growths int he brain typically have > 1 of these bright spots.

Had brain mri/wcontrast.Small spot rt side seen by neuro said hypertension maybe but no ms.Should i be worried.Taking 81mg aspirin now mra of neck nex?

Small white spot: A single small white spot should not be cause for concern. It can be caused by high blood pressure. Since you have high blood pressure, it makes sense to use a little aspirin. We see white spots in 50% of our brain MRI's up here. If you also have headaches, it is reasonable to have the MRA test. Otherwise I am not sure why this test was ordered. ...Read more

How likely am i to be diagnosed with ms? I originally went to the doctor for numbness and tingling in my hand and foot and have gotten severe pain in my opposite arm and hip on two occasions. One white spot was found on my brain mri, minor degenerative c

Hard to say: One white spot on brain MRI is nonspecific. If it is in a particular area (corpus callosum) it would be more concerning, otherwise it could have been from prior brain infection (encephalitis) or trauma (shearing injury). Your symptoms are a bit more worrisome. Perhaps a spinal fluid analysis will help. Neurology consult would be useful. ...Read more
