White Spots On Liver Ultrasound
An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more
Spots?: Need to see the scan to know what you are seeing. "spots" just doesn't supply enough information for a reasonable answer. You could have seen blood vessels, cysts, or anything. Ask your doctor. ...Read more
Depends: Spots in the liver detected by ultrasound are usually further characterized as anechoic, hyper-echoic, calcific, fluid filled or solid. These additional descriptive terms can help better identify the 'spots'...These areas could be cycts, benign growths, malignant growths, scars, nemangiomas or abcesses as some possibilities. Sometimes additional tests are need to figure this out. ...Read more

What could grey spots on an ultrasound potentially mean? They were on either my liver or kidney and there were about 10 varrying in size.
Can't answer: "Grey spots" does not provide useable information to answer your question. Significance of any ultrasound findings should be detailed by the physician (likely a radiologist) who read the exam. ...Read more
41 year old female and I have low ALT and AST levels. And recent ultrasound shows spots on my liver. What does this mean?

Just had a ultrasound of the liver, gallbladder done...there were several spots (apox 7 maybe more) I could see. I know ive had gallstones since 2011?
Gallstones: Gallstones are a common finding. 1 in 10 patients have gallstones, and the gallbladder does not need to be removed unless the stones have started causing problems such as Biliary colic, cholecystitis, or pancreatitis. If you are having abdominal pain, it may be a good idea to take your test results and see a surgeon and get an expert opinion whether removal is beneficial in your circumstance. ...Read more

Is it possible to have mildly elevated liver enzymes and some small spots on your liver during an ultrasound and have the two findings be totally unrelated? Could you have non alcoholic fatty liver disease and cysts or something similar?
Yes.: This is in fact common. Both liver cysts and liver enzyme abnormalities are very common. Therefore the overlap of those two is also common. It would be unlikely that a cyst alone would be responsible for liver enzyme elevations. ...Read more
I am 29 years old. Feel very healthy. Normal weight for my body. Had ultrasound done on liver for elevated enzymes. Just had mono and norovirus a few weeks ago. They found 3 small spots on my liver no bigger than 1 cm. Thoughts? Common causes?
Need much more info: You need to find out from your doctor what they mean when they say "spots". Were these seen on ultrasound or with CT scan, other imaging? Are they cystic or do they look like solid tissue abnormality. It's way to hard to make any guesses not even knowing how these were imaged. You had mono recently and this virus can affect the liver, so it may be nothing more than left over inflammation.... ...Read more

Does a few yellowish white spots on the back of 57+ yr Indian female indicate any liver or kidney issue?
A small black spot on my liver the size of a penny was found during an ultrasound. I'm being sent for an MRI scan but am worried sick?
Stool paler than normal with mucus and white spots. Should I be worried? Had liver/pancreas blood tests done recently, normal results.
Stop worrying: If you feel generally well, are maintaining your weight, and can take part successfully in sports, then there's no reason to concern yourself with the vagaries of stool color and complexion. You describe some abdominal pain and you do need to find out whether this should be managed as functional bowel disease, or whether you have gallstones, or if there's any evidence it may be something else. ...Read more
Ultrasound of abdomen showed 1.2cm dark spot in the right lobe of liver. CT scan done without contrast, inconclusive. Do I need a CT with contrast?
Ct scan showed spot on liver, have colon cancer but ultrasound came back negative does it mean it was wrong?
Pet or MRI may help: Other imaging modalities may help further clarify if this finding in ct is suspicious for malignancy or more likely benign if the ct and ultrasound have not been more specific. If u have older ct scans to compare and this is indeed new, then further clarification is needed. This all has to be taken into context of the bigger clinical picture including CEA as well as the rest of your body. ...Read more
Can a CT from 7 years ago be used to diagnosis for current liver hemangioma. A current ultrasound shows a spot on the liver. Don't want to waste money.
CT v US for liver: You stated a ct showed a hepatic hemangioma seven years ago and you had an us showing a "spot" on your liver recently. I will assume you had an ordering physician and can gain access to the old ct report. If so, I would venture to say if they are in the same approximate area and size you're probably fine with just the us. Any major difference may need a reconsideration. Talk with your doctor. ...Read more
I have pain and a elevated liver and my doctor thought I could have gallstones so sent me for an ultrasound. Could they spot anything else i.E bowel cancer?
The ultrasound used to look at the gallbladder is limited to a small area. It can see the liver and sometimes pancreas or kidney.
Seeing the inside of the bowel is not easy on many types of abdominal imaging, but ct probably would be better. Although ct is not very good at looking at the gallbladder. ...Read more

Is it normal to see on the sonogram, black spots on my liver? My dr will give me the results untill Monday. I'm so paranoid thinking of alot of things.
That's on every scan: Every ultrasound scan has white spots and black spots. That's the way they appear. Patience is a virtue. If the doctor says the results can wait until Monday (3 days from now), then one can do other things and think other thoughts until then. If the scan is to diagnose something urgent, such as appendicitis, the doctor wouldn't say it's ok to wait for the results. ...Read more
