Most people with white spots have one of these three. Treating vitiligo and guttate hypomelanosis is very difficult, treating tinea versicolor is very easy if desired, and most people don't care about spots one way or the other. ...Read more

Cheilitis: Cheilitis is the label applied to inflammation of the lips. When it occurs in the corners/angles of the mouth it is called angular cheilitis or angular stomatitis. It is fairly common. Nutritional (iron/B vitamins/folic acid) deficiencies are thought to be causes, as is allergy (contact with something irritating), & infection (yeast, staph, strep). Tonsil stones: Aka tonsilliths are calcified materials that form in the crevices of the tonsils, composed mainly of calcium, some phosphorus and ammonia(hence the odor--halitosis). The true cause of this nuisance is unknown, but it is often considered harmless. Simple removal with a currette or oral irrigation is often adequate to get rid of them. Maybe, maybe not: Adults can take some medicines that are not safe for children, and a child's dose is almost always different from yours, especially at five. Your son may well have strep and probably needs medicine; call your doctor and ask what to do. Taking medicine prescribed for someone else is not a good idea. ...Read more
