May be trapped...: Spots along the lips may be trapped dead skin cells, which is called a comedone. If it is covered by a thin bit of skin, then it is called a closed comedone. Cheilitis: Cheilitis is the label applied to inflammation of the lips. When it occurs in the corners/angles of the mouth it is called angular cheilitis or angular stomatitis. It is fairly common. Nutritional (iron/B vitamins/folic acid) deficiencies are thought to be causes, as is allergy (contact with something irritating), & infection (yeast, staph, strep). Fordyce granules: You are describing Fordyce granules. Fordyce granules do not usually wax and wane like herpes labialis (aka fever blisters). Could be something: This may be something or not. Kids get white patches on their tongue sometime from drinking milk. They can get a fungal infection on their gums, they can have whit spots from various infections. If the kid is doing fine, playful with normal feeding habits it is probably nothing. Maybe...: ...Thrush typically comes on the inside of the cheek, edge (not top) of the tongue, and inside of the lips and gums. It also does not come off with gentle rubbing. Hydrogen Peroxide: Some toothpastes and oral hygiene products contain hydrogen peroxide. These have not been reported to cause white spots in the mouth if used as directed.
