Pingueculum: The pingueculum is a normal structure the eye makes for protection at the open space on either side of the corneal. It is poorly vascularized, so when the eye gets red for any reason, it stands out because it looks pale compared to the redness around it. This is normal and not a problem. Read more

Corneal ulcer: The iris is inside the eye and rarely changes except to dilate and contract. The cornea, the clear window at the front of the eye, can develop an ulcer spot (a collection of bacteria) which looks white on top of the iris, causes local redness in the sclera and pain. This can be serious and should be seen by her ophthalmologist. If she is a contact wearer, take them out right away. Read more

Subconjunctiva blood: It sounds like your son got a subconjunctival hemorrhage. This just means that a small blood vessel that lies within the conjunctiva broke and the blood is trapped under the conjunctiva which is a clear layer of tissue that lays over the sclera (white part of the eye). You should still have him see an eye doctor to confirm this and rule-out any further damage. It will last 7-14 days before clearing. Read more

Poked in the eye. Small red spot on sclera and bubble like inflammation. Minor discomfort. What can I do to heal?

Time: If your vision is unaffected (not blurred, double, etc) this is most likely a hemorrhage from one of the small vessels in or under the membrane (conjunctiva) over the white of the eye. It should resolve by itself over the next couple of weeks. It does not require treatment. Read more

Birthmarks?: Hmmm... without seeing your son, it is hard to say; however, it can be very normal to have "freckles" or areas of hyperpigmentation in the sclera of the eyes. Although, adequate calcium intake is important, I am unsure as to why your physician would have linked the two. Read more

See your doctor: Yellow sclera often means jaudice. Usually the urine would be dark. You may have hepatitis.Blood and other liver diseases can cause it also. The brown spots may be pigment in the conjunctiva of the eyes if you have dark skin. This would be normal and not related. See a doctor as soon as you can. Read more

I had spot in my eye wht can I do?

I had spot in my eye wht can I do?

Go to your doctor: This is probably a posterior vitreous detachment. The gel inside your eyes, vitreous, has partially liquefied & is pulling away from the retina which lines the back of your eye & is a normal with aging. This causes floaters. The only concern is if it begins to pull on the retina & tears it. Retinal tears can lead to retinal detachment & blindness. Go to your doctor to be sure. Read more
