Genital infection?: Women often have elevated WBC in urine because of contamination of the sample with genital fluids. WBC are common in vaginal fluids, for example, often (but not always) because of infections like yeast and STDs. Also, symptoms of yeast and STDs often are similar to UTI. Maybe not UTI: red cells in the urine , can be from trauma, kidney disease or disease of the urinary tract. They do not often appear in UTIs without White blood cells. Not much to do: When the symptoms are classic urinary tract infection and the urinalysis is also agreeing, there really isn't much of a physical exam that is necessary. if you were also having significant vaginal symptoms - discharge, burning, pain with intercourse, fever and pelvic pain, then certainly a pelvic exam should also be done. ...Read more
