White Blood Cell Tests
.What do white and red blood cell blood tests look for? Mine came back normal, i was just wondering what abnormal tests could mean. Cancer etc. ...
Anemia etc: A CBC measures numbers of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. If you have low red blood cells, you have anemia. This can indicate chronic bleeding, nutritional deficits, hormone or bone marrow problems. White blood cells are abnormally high with certain infections and leukemia. It's good your test came back normal. Your dizziness isn't from anemia! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Types of white cells: The differential looks at the different types of white blood cells (WBCs). The number given is a percentage of that type of WBC relative to the other types. There are a number of reasons to have a WBC test drawn, so the real answer depends upon the context of the test. If you are looking for infection, some types of cells may suggest viral (lymphocytes) versus bacterial infection (neutrophils). ...Read more
Test results show i have low white blood cell clunt and vitemin e defi can it be from the ciprofloxacin i was taking. And how can i mKe boost it up?
Low white count: I would consider the possibility that you have a viral process and that is lowering your white count. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is not know to cause low WBC count. As to your vitamin E level you can try taking a mixed tocopherol daily or try the following foods: wheat germ, corn, nuts, seeds, olives , spinach, asparagus, green leafy vegetables, vegetable oils. ...Read more

When reading blood test results, what does the term "absolute" mean when in front of "white blood cell count"?
Complete Blood Count: The CBC counts the major cells types in the blood and gives a picture of health. Newer cell counters are able to accurately recognize several main classes of white bc, neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes and others. Thus the actual number of these cells can be counted in a given volume of blood- the absolute #. Older methods used the total WBC and then multiplied by the % for each type . ...Read more
I just recently just got some blood tests results for my 9yr old son. His white blood cell count was very low, what could this mean?
Don't focus on #: When talking about lab results, you need to focus first and foremost on why those labs were ordered in the first place when interpreting what they mean. If your child has been ill short term with a viral type illness, perhaps something like mono, then a 'very low' WBC can be normal response and transient. On the other hand, if he has had long term symptoms of something, interpretation differs. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
If bag for babies urine sample was contaminated can high level of white blood cell test be false? Also second bag for culture make test false neg?
No bags!!: If there is a significant concern for a urine infection in a baby, a bag specimen should never be used. It's akin to pooping on an area before a culture is collected instead of a nice sterile clean sight. The baby should be catheterized with a tiny feeding tube or small cath tube and a truly clean specimen obtained. So many false positives from dirty specimens and then unclear results. ...Read more
