White Blood Cell Ranges
Extreme fatigue and swollen lymph nodes. Checked out by surgeon. CBC: White blood cells in normal range, lymphocytes 53% ESR and CRP ok. No fever, I gained weight. Doctors say an infection. Ideas?
My dad made blood test but the white blood cell range was high 23000 /lymphocites also high about 80 &segmented neutrophils 17.what should he do??
Hard to comment: He has mostly absolute lymphocytosis. If this was just a blood screen this is most likely chronic lymphocytic leukemia or CLL, which most of the time is a slowly progressive disease. If he was sick at the time of the test would just recommend follow-up CBC in couple of weeks. When was the last time he had normal cell counts? Would recommend seeing a hematologist if no acute sickness. ...Read more

My results say I have a value of 11.77 (white blood cell count) from a range of 4.16-9.95 and flag "H." Should I worry?
Follow it: A mnor illness, cold shower, or "unknown factors" can raise your white count. Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either side. If you feel okay and the cells are normally formed, don't fret about it. ...Read more
I have had a series of fluctuating white blood cell counts: in the 3.0 range then 2.5 then 4.2. Should this be of concern? Is this up/down normal?
Hematologist: Low white counts such as yours are not necessarily serious if your red cell series and platelet counts are normal. Occasionally this pattern is seen in connective tissue disorders like lupus, however. A hematologist is best qualified to evaluate and advise you and order the appropriate tests as well as arrange a proper follow-up schedule which is important. ...Read more
Wide range: Zero to "very high" (eg 100's of thousands). Leukemia undergoing treatment may result in a zero white blood cell (WBC) count. Some leukemias may have relatively normal total WBC but abnormal cells (blasts) in the differential. Other leukemias can develop very high WBC counts. So, a wide range is possible. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
4,000 - 10,000: This is somewhat dependent on ethnicity. The normal range for caucasions is 4, 000 - 10, 000/ cubic millimeter. People of color (blacks and asians) tend to have a lower wbc, and their normal may go down to 3, 000. The most prevelent WBC is a neutrophil, and there should be at least 1500 neutrophils for all ethnicities. ...Read more
