Which Vitamins Are Required For Effective Vitiligo Treatment
Can vitiligo be stopped from further spreading? How? Is there certain vitamins/ nutrients to take? ( for 5 year old kid)
Unlikely: True vitiligo is a geneticlly derived deficiency in pigment formation in a variety of patches on the skin.It clusters around the neck, face and hands. Dermatologists do have some specific treatments that help in some cases. This is not a nutrient deficiency issue and a diet change will not alter the process. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a vitiligo and I am taking 1000mcg vitamin b12,800mcg folic acid,300mg a-lipoic acid and taking daily sunlight, does all these hav any side eff?
All very safe: Vits. B12, Folic Acid and Alpha Lipoic Acid are all very safe without side effects. B12 and a-lipoic acid are in many foods. Folic acid is actually synthetic but we covert it folate, found in food. About half of people have trouble converting folic acid to folate so you might be better off taking the L-5-MTHF form of folate. Being 13 is hard enough without disfiguring acne, and junior has a right to effective treatment. I begin most folks with topical Clindamycin with or without a retinoic acid derivative, moving to stronger stuff as appropriate. Good luck. ...Read more
Yes: Lamictal has a whole slew of potential side effects, but wasn't aware that vitamin d deficiency was one of them. No matter the cause, if you're vitamin d deficient an over the counter 2, 000 units of vitamin d3 daily is a very effective treatment with almost zero potential risk unless you have an elevated calcium level (which should be evaluated by your doc)/. ...Read more

Vitiligo: Great question! there are few great treatments for vitiligo, and none that i know to provide a "self-cure". Long-term (1 yr) ultraviolet light therapy at a dermatologist can be helpful. A topical medicine called Protopic has also shown to be helpful in thin skin areas affected by vitiligo--face, lips, eyelids, neck. Not very helpful on elbows, hands, etc. See your doctor. ...Read more
