Stress (Definition)

Stress affects most people in some way. Acute (sudden, short-term) stress leads to rapid changes throughout the body. Almost all body systems (the heart and blood vessels, immune system, lungs, digestive system, sensory organs, and brain) gear up to meet perceived danger. These stress responses could prove beneficial in a critical, life-or-death situation. Over time, however, repeated stressful situations put a strain on the body that may contribute to physical and psychological problems. Chronic (long-term) stress can have real health consequences and should be addressed like any other health concern. Fortunately, research is showing that lifestyle changes and stress-reduction techniques can help people learn ...Read more

I've seen vitamin supplements marketed as "stress formula" - usually w/higher doses of B vitamins. Are these safe to use and do they work for stress?

I've seen vitamin supplements marketed as "stress formula" - usually w/higher doses of B vitamins. Are these safe to use and do they work for stress?

Don't waste money!: There is so much false hype in marketing vitamins. No vitamins will have any effect on stress. If you eat a normal diet and not pregnant, you probably don't need vitamin supplements. But if you feel you might benefit, choose the cheapest multivitamin on the shelf and ignore claims like stress reduction, improved energy, immune system boosting, etc. ...Read more

Can I take 10,000 mcg biotin a day with stress b complex? Or not take the vitamin b complex

Can I take 10,000 mcg biotin a day with stress b complex? Or not take the vitamin b complex

See below: The appropriate dose of biotin depends on several factors such as the user’s age, health, and several other conditions. At this time there is not enough scientific information to determine an appropriate range of doses for biotin. Keep in mind that natural products are not always necessarily safe and dosages can be important. Be sure to follow relevant directions on product labels and consult your pharmacist or physician or other healthcare professional before using. There is no recommended dietary allowance (RDA) established for biotin. The adequate intakes (AI) for biotin are 7 mcg for infants 0-12 months, 8 mcg for children 1-3 years, 12 mcg for children 4-8 years, 20 mcg for children 9-13 years, 25 mcg for adolescents 14-18 years, 30 mcg for adults over 18 years and pregnant women, and 35 mcg for breast-feeding women. ...Read more

I am taking a vitamin b complex supplement daily, can I take a daily multi vitamin in addition to that and if so what would you recommend i take?

I am taking a vitamin b complex supplement daily, can I take a daily multi vitamin in addition to that and if so what would you recommend i take?

Yes: While b complex is often helpful, it doesn't have the many other essential nutrients found in a multivit. As long as the total amount of b6 in both supplements doesn't exceed 200 mg (which is unlikely) it's safe to take both, though it may not be necessary to take an extra b complex if you get a good multivitamin. There are many good brands- see http://bit.Ly/1b36cq0 any in the top 30 are great. ...Read more
