Which kind of brace should you wear for a meniscus tear?

Hmmmm: There truly are no braces designed for meniscus tears. That said, some patients report that a simple neoprene sleeve (not too tight) will improve their symptoms. Braces are generally used for patients with ligament injuries and instability of the knee. ...Read more

The meniscus can tear as a result of injury or secondary degenerative changes that occur over time. Because the meniscus cartilage dies not have it's own blood supply, tears often ...Read more

I am suffering from knee pain diagonised with medial meniscus tear...Can i heal it without any surgery...Should i wear a brace?

Rarely: The meniscus of the knee has for 90%+ no circulation and because of it little potential to heal. Unless the tear is small and very peripheral (where circulation is best) it will not heal on its own. Surgery is advised for tears that are causing locking of the knee. Your symptoms have to correlate with the MRI findings to recommend surgery. ...Read more

What type knee brace would you suggest for a torn meniscus I've had surgery to fix it yet I still have a lot of instability issues?

What type knee brace would you suggest for a torn meniscus I've had surgery to fix it yet I still have a lot of instability issues?

Hinged brace + PT: The best braces to decrease the chances of having instability episodes are hinged knee braces. Even with these braces, however, you may still experience instability. Your best bet to decrease these episodes is to begin a focused exercise protocol to strengthen your quadriceps, hamstrings, and hip abductor & adductor muscles. I often prescribe physical therapy for these injuries. ...Read more

Have Medial Meniscus tear w/ cyst wearing hinged knee brace but calf is very painful What should I do?

Have Medial Meniscus tear w/ cyst wearing hinged knee brace but calf is very painful What should I do?

How helpful is brace: If the brace is the source of the calf pain, but helps the knee, then an adjustment to the brace (size, fit, etc.) could be considered. Alternatively, a new brace could be utilized. Personally, I don't routinely use braces for meniscal tears unless there is a ligament tear as well or associated arthritis with a misaligned knee. Seek additional help if the brace is not the cause of the calf pain. ...Read more

I have an acl tear and meniscus tear I'm waiting to see a doctor after being put in a brace my ankle is swelling should I be worried?

Knee injuries: If the knee injury is recent (within 2 weeks), the ankle swelling is likely the result of the injury to the lower extremity itself. This is especially true if you are not elevating the extremity regularly. Gravity will pull the fluid into the foot/ankle over time. 2-3 weeks after injury, the swelling should start to improve, but may take longer of you remain on your feet most of the day ...Read more

Is it ok to play rugby 4 days after an second degree MCL and meniscus tear little swelling some bruising I have a brace it dosent hurt that bad?

Not ideal: Braces do not provide protection at physiologic loads. It might help with walking, but not at heavy loads such as rugby. I recommend you hold off until you are pain free with full range of motion. 4 days is a bit too soon for a grade 2 mcl sprain. Could take up to a month. ...Read more
