Can jumping off moving equipment 5 to 15 mph on to uneven ground for 35 years up to 150 times a day cause back and knee injury? The injury's has caused total disability to lower spine and knees!
This : This is a loaded question. There are many things that happen with age regardless of what activities you do. There are other things that happen as a result of trauma, but usually from a specific injury. While people discuss "cumulative trauma" there is no solid scientific evidence to establish that is causes arthritis. One of the questions is: what else might you have been doing if you weren't doing your job? If you were skiing, snowboarding, running, playing soccer, etc., you may have developed the same problems. The theoretical "8-hour" work day means that less than 1/3 or our time is actually spent at work (assuming 2 days off per week). Many of the things we do in our off-work time also contribute to arthritis and back pain. Have you been assessed for conditions like ankylosing spondylitis or other inflammatory arthropathies? Some of those can be improved with medications. If you've been doing your job for over 35 years, then you are also at an age when some arthritis was likely to happen anyway. Be mindful about opening a worker's compensation claim. There are some advantages, but also disadvantages. Have a frank conversation with your treating physician about the nature of your back and knee problems, any injuries you may have had, and the possible relationship to your job before deciding which way to go. Two things that can help both problems are losing weight (unless you're already very thin) and avoiding smoking. You'd be surprised how much they contribute to pain. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I hurt my ankle while shifting weight while seated. Is it necessary to get an xray, or just treat as a sprain? It looks/feels the same as past sprains
Have it evaluated.: Pain may last a long time following a foot or ankle injury. An x-ray can show if there is an underlying fracture. You may have a soft tissue injury if it is just a sprain and may have damaged the muscle, tendon, or ligaments in the area. Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

6 weeks ago got pat tendonitis left knee now only tight pain while on run on treadmill is it safe to start run outside or can I cause more damage?
Start slow outside: Patella tendonitis can be a chronic problem and hard to get rid of. It usually takes backing off from the activity that caused in, relative rest then going back to activity slowly and in increments. If you can run on the tredmill with no problem you can start outside , best would be on a perma-traack like one found at a local high scjool or college. Th surface is level and more cushiony. ...Read more
Been on crutches due to foot injury. But now the other leg (weight bearing one) hurts severly in the knee. Feels like bone on bone rubbing.
Heavy impact on foot causing heel to stretch downward while ball and toes of foot were stationary.Anything happen to tendency or just sore pain.Norest?
Depends: Your question is choppy and not sure exactly what you are asking. With a heavy impact on the ball of the foot and your heel stretching downward can stress forefoot, midfoot and rearfoot including the achilles. If you experience swelling, pain and difficulyt weight bearing consult your physican. If you have minor discomfort then you can ice, elevate and do simple stretches until better no impact. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Ran 70-100 mi/wk. My peroneals and soleus were much bigger than the other elite runners. Is this due to unstable ankle or hip joints?
Unlikely: The soleus is a primary propulsive muscle in running. It may be difficult to differentiate it from your gastrocs visually . It is extremely unlikely that this is due to ankle or hip instability as these muscles don't stabilize the hip. Ankle instability usually presents with a history of frequent ankle sprains. Your personal musculature is probably a result of genetics and your environment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I fell this morning, landing directly on my right knee on concrete. Have "road rash", bruising and swelling, as well as a distinct feeling of liquid around the kneecap, which is my main concern. Can flex and walk on it. Safe to treat at home?
Knee injury: The concern here would be a fracture of your patella(knee cap) in view of the type of trauma and the presence of knee swelling. We know that at the very least a contusion of the patella occurred. If pain and swelling are pronounced, get examined and an xray. In the meantime apply cold and elevate your leg. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Problem in front of ankle. Only hurts when lunge/flex or when cheerleading. Tried to rest for months but things like bending down or stairs re-injure?
Could be tendon: Things of concern here are if there was an injury to this area at any time. The ankle seems to have a problem with Dorsiflexion which could involve the bone in the ankle. There could be bone impingement or perhaps a partial tear of a tendon. Seems like this has been going on for a while. This will require a CT scan or MRI. ...Read more
