I jammed my knee last night and I have a ski trip tomorrow. What's the best I can do to protect my knee and keep it from causing me pain?

Don't go skiing yet: Josh, looks like you've been waiting so I think this might come too late--if you've already gone skiing, I hope you did ok! If someone has an injury to their knee i usually tell them to rest/ice it for a few days. The problem with skiing with a sore knee (or any joint, for that matter) is that it is harder for your body to react to unexpected terrain changes and you're more likely to get hurt. ...Read more

Yesterday was first time I went parallel skiing. I woke up with pain on the inside of my left knee hurts more when I bend the knee. What can it be?

MCL / meniscus..?: Skiing can stress the medial collateral ligament w/ valgus(knock-kneed) injuries or repeated 'cutting' or changing direction while skiing. If your knee continues to hurt despite nsaids and time, or develops swelling inside the joint it could be your cartilage(medial meniscus). This is usually more likely injured w/ a twisting mechanism and may require surgery... Good luck! ...Read more

Knee pain-see MD: You should see your primary care doctor for evaluation of your knee. A diagnosis can't be made without a thorough history and exam.
