Which Is Better Elliptical Or Bike
Have lost about 80 lbs, but still weight about 220. Want to start exercising. Have an elliptical and a bike but what the best routine for a beginner?
Exercise!: Congratulations on losing 80 pounds although it's not clear to me how you did it w/o exercise. First go see your family doc & make sure you're otherwise healthy enough to exercise. You didn't mention your height so go to http://www.Nhlbi.Nih.Gov/guidelines/obesity/bmi/bmicalc.Htm to determine goal weight for your height. Finally, start riding a few minutes daily. Add a few minutes as that gets ea. ...Read more

Exercise bike, treadmill, elliptical, ski machine etc. If you had the choice of only one, what would it be?
Doesn't matter: The one you choose should be the one you're going to use. The type of machine is less important than how much you use it and whether you keep challenging yourself. In order to improve your fitness you have to keep doing a little more than is comfortable -- exercise in the zone of discomfort., but not pain the type of machine -- or no machine -- is a personal choice. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I am trying to lose weight at the gym im 21 years old and 238 lbs at 5'1. What machines should I focus on I do the treamill bike and elliptical ?
Any that burn cals: The best weight loss plan is a combo of cardio and the development of lean muscle mass. Do cardio exercises at moderate intensity for at least 20 minutes 5 days/week. Do resistance exercises (free weights and/or machines), working all major muscle groups 3 times/week with a rest day in between. Find specific exercises you enjoy and can be done safely. ...Read more
I run 3 miles 2x/week (built up to this in dec - definately still challenging), i bike/elliptical 2x/week. All cardio is followed by weight lifting and crunches. Is this safe during pregnancy?
All of them?: The exercises you mentioned when done correctly can all give you your desired result. I usually suggest alternating your cardio machines, thereby decreasing repetitive injury - for example do 15 min on each. Also pls make sure you are doing the correct exercises on each, if anything hurts stop and avoid running on the treadmill - u can always increase incline instead. Hope this helps. ...Read more
All three: Most acl reconstruction patients have quad muscle inhibition after surgery, so controlling quad function is a major part of physical therapy. A stationary bicycle also helps by working on the quad muscle group. The elliptical machine does not specifically help with the quad or knee muscle groups, but is an excellent overall conditioning system. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Personal preference: Both elliptical machines and stationary bikes are great adjuncts to an ACL reconstruction rehabilitation program. They both protect the recovering knee and new ACL from unsafe forces such as rotating and pivoting while also limiting impact loading. Some patients do not like one or the other pieces of equipment, so it is nice to have various options. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Stage of recovery?: This answer depends on what stage of recovery you are in. Generally i allow stationary biking (with pt or atc supervision) at 6 weeks, and ellipitcal at 9-12 weeks. There is some variation to this based on individual progress, and in whether or not there were injuries in addition to the acl tear (i.e. Meniscus tear). ...Read more
