Only a little amount of hormone is required to alter cell metabolism. In essence, it is a chemical messenger that transports a signal from ...Read more

Why does mefenamic acid decrease female fertility what does it do to a female body ie ovulation hormaones?

Why does mefenamic acid decrease female fertility what does it do to a female body ie ovulation hormaones?

It doesn't: I answered this a day ago, and don't usually repeat so you can get answers from other doctors. Since you're still asking and no ones answering, I say again: it doesn't. I wasn't guessing. Ponstel (mefenamic acid) (in the us) is a drug like advil or ibuprofen. It doesn't affect fertility. There are rhesus monkey studies where high doses of NSAID inhibit ovulation, but if you're not a monkey I wouldn't fret. :). ...Read more

Ovulation: Of the female cyclic hormones estradiol, fsh, lh, and inhibin-a and -b all peak at (some just before) ovulation. It doesn't make much sense to talk about one being 'higher than the other' because they are measured in different units and follow different cyclic patterns. ...Read more

White mucus week after ovulation. Its last for one day. What is it? The decline in hormone levels? Thanks

White mucus week after ovulation. Its last for one day. What is it? The decline in hormone levels? Thanks

Hormone response: White mucus is not diagnostic of anything specific however if it occurs on a regular basis mid cycle, it might signal a decrease in progesterone secretion in a woman. As woman's hormone levels cycle every month, and are responsive to multiple chemical changes one would have to measure blood levels over the month to document a decrease in hormone levels. ...Read more

Can a ovulation test be positive for ovulation when in fact ur actually pregnant? I have heard the test can get the hormones mixed up!

My cycle has never affected my moods before, but recently I've started to feel emotional while ovulating. Have my hormones changed? Is this normal?

My cycle has never affected my moods before, but recently I've started to feel emotional while ovulating. Have my hormones changed? Is this normal?

Probably: People frequ ently experience mood shiftts per-period. Many times it starts in adolescence and continues regularly. Check with others your age (you'll have more time to share information) and see if their experience is very different. If in doubt see your gynecologist. If the emotionality is really problematic and your dr sees it as different, check with a psychiatrist. ...Read more

I am wondering if an ovulation test would always be positive when pregnant. I know they test dif. Hormones, but it seems this Q has mixed responses.?

Sometimes, but: The shortest answer I can give is: OPK and hPT will both detect hCG (pregnancy hormone) so can be used as pregnancy tests, BUT the OPK is not as sensitive to hCG. Practically this means hPT will correctly show pregnancy before the OPK can detect it; making the OPK a pretty lousy way to check pregnancy. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Can an ovulation test really detect the hCG hormone as well. Why would an OPK show up positive several days after certain ovulation?

Can an ovulation test really detect the hCG hormone as well. Why would an OPK show up positive several days after certain ovulation?

Yes: There are two subunits in fsh, lh and HCG so there is some crossreaction in the kit. The kit is used to detect lh, but it can also detect some hcg. I would not expect to see any HCG a few days after ovulation so I suspect it is just picking up leftover lh. If you were pregnant and used the ovulation kit a few days before your missed menses, it would be postitive. ...Read more

How to stop ovulation bleeding? Bleed every month during ovulation for 3-5 days, no other issues like fibroid etc. It is due to hormone change.

Not sure.: Midcycle ovulatory bleeding is usually very light, spotty even, and usually only lasts for a day. I would think that a sonogram would be very helpful to see if there was anything else (polyps in the uterus, fibroids, or a very thickened lining of the uterus). If not, then perhaps a couple of months of a birth control pill (which should suppress/prevent ovulation) could be tried, then see if bett. ...Read more

Hi I have just used a clear blue ovulation dual hormone test and it came back positive but I am due my period tomorrow??

Why?: If you know that your period is due tomorrow, and you know that ovulation usually occurs mid-cycle, I am curious why you decided to do the test at this time. Although ovulation usually occurs mid-cycle that this not the case in all women nor all cycles. A woman can theoretically get pregnant at any time during her cycle. ...Read more

How is LH hormone produced? Is it necessary to have a growing follicle to have an LH surge? How often does ovulation occur after a positive OPK?

How is LH hormone produced? Is it necessary to have a growing follicle to have an LH surge? How often does ovulation occur after a positive OPK?

LH: LH is made in the anterior pituitary, it takes a whole book chapter to explain how. It is necessary to have a threshold Estradiol level to have an LH surge, so practically speaking it is necessary to have a follicle. It is unknown for certain how often ovulation occurs after surge, but conservatively it is likely at least 95% of the time. ...Read more

How do hormones "cross react" on a pregnant test from hormone surge from ovulation? This can turn a pregnant test + day after ovulation & possible conception?

How do hormones "cross react" on a pregnant test from hormone surge from ovulation? This can turn a pregnant test + day after ovulation & possible conception?

Not likely to happen: Ovulation predictor tests detect lh (luteinizing hormone) in your urine. Urine pregnancy tests (upt) look for HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) which is similar to lh but not the same hormone. There isn't enough lh in your urine from the pre-ovulation lh surge to give you a "false positive" upt. The upt is very accurate. A HCG injection to trigger ovulation will give you a + upt for a week or so. ...Read more
