I've got severe endometriosis that doesn't get any better through either surgery or GnRH analogues. Is chemotherapy an option to kill the tissue?

Endometriosis : I am sorry you are in pain. Unfortunately there is no chemotherapy for endometriosis. However, usually endometriosis surgery or gnrh analogues provide relief for at least short time. I would make sure there is no other cause of your pain in addition to emosis. The only way to get rid of endometriosis is hysterectomy. Pregnancy also will make the symptoms less at least for the 9 mo but often longer ...Read more

If cea has dropped after 2 round of chemotherapy from 80 to 55 is that a good drop ? Or should it b more . Metastic colon cancer

If cea has dropped after 2 round of chemotherapy from 80 to 55 is that a good drop ? Or should it b more . Metastic colon cancer

Slight response: A tumor marker like CEA should only be employed for monitoring. During treatment if the tumor marker drops it is a suggestion that there is a response to treatment. If it rises then the tumor is probably progressing. This however should be confirmed by scan. A more significant finding however is not just a lowering of the marker level burt a return to normal. Chemo here should be continued. ...Read more

Which hepatitis is worse a ' b or c ?

Does cancer make hair drop or is it the chemo?

Cyclosporine or Prograf, which one is more convenient or less aggressive for a patient with ckd stage 3 and less unpleasant side effects?

Whoa!: Both of these are immunosuppressive agents. Their indications vary depending on what is actually wrong with the kidney -- clinical diagnosis and biopsy, perhaps current. These are often used in patients who have had transplants. Please do not attempt to self-administer any of these medications as they are quite dangerous. Stage 3 CKD may not require any medications. ...Read more

Once cancer has developed to stage 4, when it spread to different organs and chemo is given, does this remove cancer or is the organ itself cancerous?

The organ is Ok: Cancer involved different organs as isolated scattered tumor nodules. With a good/effective chemo, the tumor nodules shrink and can sometimes disappear completely. The remaining organ is healthy and functions normally once cancer has been killed by the chemo. ...Read more

For a high grade glioma in an 82 yo, which treatment is better, gamma knife or stereotactic radiation therapy?

For a high grade glioma in an 82 yo, which treatment is better, gamma knife or stereotactic radiation therapy?

Stereotactic : Radiosurgery (srs), whether by gamma knife, cyberknife, or any other machine is not standard treatment for glioma. Glioma infiltrates into normal brain and so a generous "safety margin" of brain outside if the tumor or cavity must be treated. Conformal daily rt over many weeks safely treats the tumor infiltrating the brain. Srs cannot safely do that, but is sometimes used if standard rt fails. ...Read more

For a liver met, is systemic chemo like irinotecan best or chemo embolization ?

It depends: Chemotherapy is the proven best treatment for most such cases . If there is only 1-2 mets, such tumors can be removed and may be curable with combined use chemotherapy and surgery. Ask your oncologist the pros and cons of your multiple choices or you should seek a second opinion to explore ...Read more

For a stage iii-c colon cancer, can the chemotherapy considered curable? And is the chemo given for 6 months regional or systemic?

For a stage iii-c colon cancer, can the chemotherapy considered curable? And is the chemo given for 6 months regional or systemic?

Yes: Stage iii-c colon cancer has a high chance of coming back due to the number of lymph nodes involved. That being said, there is a fighting chance of preventing recurrence with chemo so yes, it is still potentially curable. Chemo is usually systemic, a combo such as folfox (5fu, leucovorin, and oxaliplatin). Best to you. ...Read more
