Plaster paris cast: A sprain, fracture , tear? Non orthopedist will splint( ( i.e. not all the way around), if concerned about a fracture or unstable joint. Or can use pre-fab splints and crutches. Nowadays only orthopedists cast . Fractures are detected by xray. Ligament tears, meniscus tears by MRI .
