Recently began bowling weekly, wrist hurts to lift or bend down. Pain is becoming unbarable. Should i see someone? Any suggestion on what to do?
Yes, get a hand exam: New activities can put stress on ligaments or muscles that you have not used before, resulting in stiffness, pain and changes in strength. Bowling, a strenuous activity on the wrist is classic. Oral anti-inflammatories might help, along with modifying your activity. However, make sure you have not sustained a true injury by seeing a hand surgeon who can examine your wrist. My office is not far. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

43f. My friends are distance runners . I want to join them but running is painful for me. My feet, back , knees all hurt when i'm done ! why? I need to pack myself in ice and take motrin ! why
Have you acclimated?: Running distance should not be attempted on the first outing. Depending on your cardiovascular conditioning, overall health &previous exercise history, it may be necessary to work up. Try running 1/2 mi every day for 2 weeks on a soft high school track, then progress by 1/4 mi every week, running 4 days a week. Back pain: I understand you're having back pain radiating to your chest. Doubt it has to do with the exposure to fan, but it sounds like a common misbelief in certain ares of the world. Anyway, i would not recur to injectables at this time. Voltren gel may be ok to try. Any muscle rub can potentially help. Local heat may be tried or heat and then ice applications each for 5 minutes at a time may be tried. ...Read more

My child's hand (2 years and 7 months) swelled like you swell a glove..It is also hot.. I think due to mosquito bites.. Please tell me what to do?
Common things common: Many kids will respond to various bug bites with localized swelling. Most it is a simple bump at the bite site, but in some, the body reacts by releasing chemicals that turn the capillaries into soaker hoses. They release serum that dilutes the toxins in any bite.A bite on the hand may swell to the elbow.A bite site should be evident. Im a pitcher , i strain my arm/sholder mid summer of 2012, what can I do for this to go away? Besides run, or ice it? Thanks :)
Shoulder strain: If you haven't done so already, i'd totally ask your doctor about physical therapy and rehab - especially if you're an athlete. Once injured, joints have a tendency to get injured again if you don't break the cycle with good rehab and strengthening. It can be an inconvenience doing pt, but for most people, it's totally worth it. Seeing a sports med specialist can also be useful. Best of luck! ...Read more
