Curious how your body works without the gallbladder and if you can still eat all the foods you like?

Curious how your body works without the gallbladder and if you can still eat all the foods you like?

Still Works: The body works without a gallbladder. The gallbladder stores bile which helps us digest fatty foods. Without the gallbladder reservoir, we cannot release as much bile after a meal, so sometimes fatty meals are harder to digest. This tends to improve with time and a low fat diet can help, especially right after surgery if fatty meals are a problem. ...Read more

I had to have my gallbladder removed, what happens to my body without this particular organ?

I had to have my gallbladder removed, what happens to my body without this particular organ?

Fat digestion issues: The gallbladder stores and concentrates bile, which is produced by the liver and used by your body to absorb fat in the gut. When you eat fat, a hormone called cck signals the gallbladder to release bile. If the gallbladder is removed, the bile cannot be released all at once, so some fat is not absorbed. It is then passed out as diarrhea. A diet low in fat, and smaller meals will reduce that. ...Read more

The bile helps you break up and digest fat. If the gallbladder is removed, there is a constant trickle of bile into the small intestine. Most people do fine without their gallbladder, and if it is removed for real disease, they feel better. ...Read more

Why is there pain at different points of the body, like behind the right shoulder or around the collarbone, if the attack happens in the gallbladder?

Referred pain : Occurs when the body gets confused about where the pain is located. Is there a way to decrease the ammount of bile salts your body makes after gallbladder surgery?

Is there a way to decrease the ammount of bile salts your body makes after gallbladder surgery?

Unfortunately no.: No. However, the reason you are probably having diarrhea is bile is constantly being introduced into the small intestine and not being completely reabsorbed before entering the large intestine. This causes irritation of the right colon and thus diarrhea. You can bind the bile by taking metamucil and thus decrease the irritation. ...Read more
