Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

What to do if i want a small baby so i don't get too fat during pregnancy. How can I choose my babies size?

What to do if i want a small baby so i don't get too fat during pregnancy. How can I choose my babies size?

Pregnancy: You can't choose your babies size. The size of your baby has nothing to do with getting fat during pregnancy. The amount of weigh you gain is up to you, as long as baby is growing properly. The uterus returns to normal size, when the baby is out. What you should be asking is, what is the best way to eat to get a healthy baby!!!! Get your priorities straight. ...Read more

Is it okay to stretch and reach high during pregnancy? I heard it can make the babies umbilical cord wrap around it's neck.

Is it okay to stretch and reach high during pregnancy? I heard it can make the babies umbilical cord wrap around it's neck.

Myth: Most cord wraps occur due to baby's spontaneous movement.Around 12 wks, there is more room/fluid compared to baby size and they can flip and spin a lot.I have seen as many as 5 neck wraps in a normal newborn.Although this can complicate delivery and lead to a c-section, there is nothing you do that will cause or prevent it. ...Read more

Is atopic ezema and asthma in infant cause by diet eg. Seafood, peanut, cold drinks etc during pregnancy?

Maybe: A series of studies showed organic milk had healthier fats than conventional milk (more omega 3s, for instance), that the breast milk of women who drank organic had even healthier fat profile than those who drank conventional, & and that the babies born to women who drank organic during pregnancy & nursing had far less eczema. Genetics sets susceptibility, but there are also environmental triggers. ...Read more

Can babies experience withdrawal symptoms after birth if mother drinks caffeine every single day during pregnancy?

Depends: on amount of caffeine mom is ingesting. I once saw an infant whose mom consumed 4 liters of Mountain Dew daily - this infant had significant withdrawal. On the other hand, I see plenty of normal newborns whose mothers still had one cup of coffee daily. Good luck! ...Read more

Is it true that palmatic acid or palm oil turn into soap in the digestive tract of babies? Is it OK to eat palm oil during pregnancy?

Is it true that palmatic acid or palm oil turn into soap in the digestive tract of babies? Is it OK to eat palm oil during pregnancy?

Palm oil : Palm oil got its bad reputation as a highly saturated fat and should be eaten only in moderation at any time, not just during pregnancy. It will not turn into soap in the digestive tracts of infants. It is an oil that is used for making soap, so I guess that is where this rumour was started. ...Read more

Confusing wording: I take it your testing said you had CMV in the past. Right?.The testing determines if you had it long ago or within 2 months. If long ago, relax. CMV is only a problem for your baby if you have it for the first time during pregnancy.Once you had it you are immune and any future pregnancy has no CMV risk. ...Read more

I am 40 years old expecting my fifth baby all four babies delivered normally ihave 23 wksof pregnancy my baby position is not ideal it is vertical ?

Confusing question: Babies are usually carried in a vertical position. Do you mean bottom first ? If so there is a chance that surgical delivery would be safer for a big baby. Yet you do have quite a while for baby to turn head down. ...Read more

Hi I have had 2 babies in the space of a year and in the pregnancy my platlets kept going down & now there still going up and down what could cause it?

See hematologist: You should see a hematologist for further evaluation. There are many causes of thrombocytopenia- or low platelets. See a hematologist for a careful history and examination. You could have an autoimmune condition called immune thrombocytopenic purpura- however, other causes have to be ruled out as well that would include pregnancy related thrombocytopenia, vitamin deficiency, other things. Does monoamniotic pregnancy benefit babies in some way?

Does monoamniotic pregnancy benefit babies in some way?

Not really.: Monochorionic monoamniotic pregnancies are extremely rare (<1% of all twins) and very complicated because fetal demise (of one or both twins) can occur without any warning from umbilical cord entanglement. You may be referring to the "protection" from ttts (twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome) in mono/mono twins; this is indeed true, however the risks above trump that benefit. ...Read more

How far into in the pregnancy are the babies lungs mature at?

34 weeks GA: Typically antenatal steroids are given to mothers who are going to deliver before 34 weeks gestation, as the lungs aren't mature by this time. They still may be given after 34 weeks, in some circumstances, but most babies have mature lungs and breathe well on their own without mothers getting steroids by 34 wks GA. ...Read more

I am 38 .i have triplets pregnancy for 7week.I'm worried this situation. is that possible that three babies carring for 36 weeks.

Yes: Most will end up in labor earlier and deliver by urgent C-section, but some get lucky. I had one mom carry to 37 wks with triplets & all did well. Just make sure you maintain good communication with your delivery team so they can work with you to get as far as possible. ...Read more
