What causes hip pain?

Hip bursitis: It is likely that you have a condition called trochanteric bursitis of your hip--it is inflammation of the area surrounding the curve of the hip-thigh bone. Possibly resulted from excessive use/walking/running and/or laying on the side on a firm/hard surface too long. Hip arthritis and disc disease can cause hip pain as well. Motrin/aleve may help. If not better, consult doc for eval. Good luck.

Muscles!!!!: Think flesh=muscles/tissue and not bone/ligament/disc/nerves with chronic pain! joints are designed to last a lifetime/100 years! Start self-care with a wellness program of vits, magnesium glycinate, sleep hygiene, exercise, self massage, chiropractor, yoga, heat, epsom tub soaking, and stretching. In my practice, I use acupuncture and myofascial tissue release with trigger points w lidocaine.

How to relieve hip pain?

Exercise: Most of hip pains are due to osteoarthritis. Over-weightiness and inactivity make hip-pain worse. Back-strengthening exercises and losing weight are helpful. Taking pain-killer should be the last resort. However, when the pain is severe and/or interferes with the lifestyle, it is wise to consider hip replacement surgery. If pain persists please consult a physician.

What to do for hip pain when I sit?

What to do for hip pain when I sit?

Hip Pain: Sitting presses the ball of the hip joint forcibly into the socket. In people with arthritis, this is not uncommon. Getting up from sitting is equally or more painful due to muscle contraction necessary to straighten up the hips to allow upright standing. Younger patients may have pain if there is a cartilage tear (similar to meniscus in knee). Try otc meds, but if persistent, may need MRI & ortho.
