Hip bursitis: It is likely that you have a condition called trochanteric bursitis of your hip--it is inflammation of the area surrounding the curve of the hip-thigh bone. Possibly resulted from excessive use/walking/running and/or laying on the side on a firm/hard surface too long. Hip arthritis and disc disease can cause hip pain as well. Motrin/aleve may help. Hip Pain: Sitting presses the ball of the hip joint forcibly into the socket. In people with arthritis, this is not uncommon. Getting up from sitting is equally or more painful due to muscle contraction necessary to straighten up the hips to allow upright standing.
