When will my baby be able to sit in a booster seat at the dinner table?

When will my baby be able to sit in a booster seat at the dinner table?

6 months: Your baby can join you at the table now (in a bouncy seat or carseat), but they won't be able to sit well in a high chair until at least 6 months of age. It'll be even longer before they no longer need a high chair and it depends on how tall they are and how tall your table is. ...Read more

23 month old throws fits when we have to get in the car seat. Can last an hr. Is it ok to turn the car seat to forward facing now? I can't force him

I wouldn't: You wouldn't ask the question unless you were ambivalent or really frustrated. You might try to locate a child passenger safety tech locally for help.Risk of neck/spine injury for forward facing kids depends on size, muscle tone and the crash involved. The European standard is rear facing to 3. Sometimes just giving small gifts for getting into the seat properly can help. ...Read more

When can my baby should start to pee in a potty without a cushy seat ?

Sometime after 18mon: After 18 months of age, a toddler knows how to cooperate when held steady on a toilet seat. Many parents in the U.S. Wait another year, because disposable diapers are so easy to use. The cushy toilet seats are a recent invention, and are not needed if a parent holds the child steady. A small plastic potty for kids if fine to use, and may work better because kids can rest their feet on the ground. ...Read more

How do you potty train a difficult child? Our son turned 4 in november, and is still in pullups. He will sit on the toilet and pee right before his bath, but refuses to poop on the toilet, and will not tell us when he has to go other than to sit on the to

Boys : Boys do tend to potty train later than girls. I hear terms like "difficult child" and "refuses to poop". My guess is that he picks up on this vibe as well. Sometimes if pushed too hard, a child will push back or will hold back. How about reading the "potty book" to him. There are some wonderful potty videos that are fun for kids to watch. If you can make this fun and get him invested, he may be more likely to play along. If he is pressured and faces anger, he is more likely to hold on to it. ...Read more

Is it safe to put my baby to sleep in a travel crib all the time?

Is it safe to put my baby to sleep in a travel crib all the time?

Yes: Make sure it is safe and the appropriate size for your baby. Check the mattress, as many models of travel cribs provide a very thin one. Many online vendors sell the thicker travel crib mattresses that may be more comfortable for your baby. Avoid anything else in the crib like pillows, blankets a baby may become entangled in and toys. Check always for recalls and safety issues with your crib. ...Read more

Is it better to put for my baby to sleep in a cradle or a bassinet before I move him to a crib?

Is it better to put for my baby to sleep in a cradle or a bassinet before I move him to a crib?

Either works fine: Both bassinets and cradles serve as temporary sleep locals for newborns until they are ready to transition to a crib. Whether parents choose one or the other is a matter of personal preference rather than a stoic medical recommendation. Safety is less of an issue now that newer models have sufficient base and slat width and wheels locks. Be sure to check manufacturer's infant weight limits. ...Read more

Should you make a 16 year old sit in a safety seat if she happens to be 4 inches under the height limit and is very light?

Should you make a 16 year old sit in a safety seat if she happens to be 4 inches under the height limit and is very light?

Yes: The height requirement is not based upon age, but upon the ability of the lap/shoulder belt to cross the body in areas that would cause the least injury in a crash. They should fit with lap belt crossing the hip bones, shoulder harness crossing sternum and clavicle, not the neck. I'm petite, they fit properly in some, but not all cars. Use a booster if her car's seat doesn't fit as described. ...Read more

When can I put my baby in a booster seat?

When can I put my baby in a booster seat?

Depends on child: The booster is designed so the waist belt does not ride up on the abdomen in a head on crash. These seats offer almost no protection in a side impact or roll over. We now have 5 point harness systems that protect better and fit kids up to 65-85 lb. I keep kids in a harness system as long as possible and use boosters for the 6-12yo. ...Read more

I am 14 weeks pregnant, I have a hot tub that we set at 97 degrees, is it safe to sit in it and let the Jets hit my back?

Hot tub temps: If you are certain that the temperature is 97 degrees only, it is safe to sit in a hot tub at 14 weeks of pregnancy and longer. Take water temp by a hand held thermometer to be sure (don't depend on the temp gauge of the hot tub). Letting the jets hit your back or your front is OK and safe. It is temp's over 100 degrees which can be unsafe. ...Read more
