Yes.: Decreased hearing for two weeks needs to be checked out unless it is due to allergies and responds to an antihistamine. Either way, avoid loud noises in the meantime and avoid respiratory tract/skin irritants/allergens in the environment (like smoke, fragrances, aerosols).

I had mono went back to the doctor and she didn't see a virus anymore. I still feel dizzy with hearing loss could this be a sinus infection from mono?

Dizzy, hearing loss: Those issues may be somewhat unrelated to mononucleosis. If you had upper respiratory symptoms with the mono, then may be related. I would suggest seeing an otolaryngologist at this point to sort things our further, get a good head/neck exam, and possibly hearing testing.

What does doctor do when you come in with sudden hearing loss?

What does doctor do when you come in with sudden hearing loss?

A hearing test: It depends on how long the hearing loss has been going on for. The first thing that will happen is the doctor will look in your ears and see if there's any wax or other problem that can be fixed. Then a hearing test will be performed. If the hearing loss is only of a few days duration high-dose steroids can be quite helpful. If the problem is fluid and then it can be drained. It is very important to see the ear nose and throat doctor as soon as possible.

No proof: As a dietary supplement, there is no proof of benefit/effectiveness, much less safety. When it comes to hearing loss, go see your Family Doc.

Sudden hearing loss: Sudden hearing loss is a abrupt loss of hearing of 30 decibels or more over at least 3 frequencies on the hearing test. Acute hearing loss can be treated with steroids or observed. Some hearing comes back even without treatment. If the doctor recommended a hearing aid, I am assuming his hearing loss is older that one month. 1 month seems to be the golden window for treatment.

TMJ syndrome: Temporo-mandibular syndrome is the second most frequent cause of orofacial pain after dental pain. TMJ syndrome may cause ear pain, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and hearing loss. Proper diagnosis is the key to successful treatment. See Orofacial Pain expert for a consultation and treatment options.

Tha'r She Blows!!!!!: This is very common: blowing air back into your ear when blowing your nose but the overall congestion won't allow it to escape. Then after a while some fluid can collect, and then if that hangs out long enough it can become infected. If the fluid or air can be removed with decongestants you'll feel better. And be careful blowing the nose: gently, one nostril at a time. chewing gum may help too.

Had a nasty cold for ~ a week. Congestion worked itself to 1 ear. Lots of pressure and muffled hearing. Prone to sinus infections. Ear infection? Doc?

Surgery may not help: I am a doctor who suffered for years with sinus infections. Do the following: 1.Avoid anything cold. 2.no soda. 3.I use Sovereign Silver spray when I feel like I am getting another attack. Its safe and natural. U won't get it in Mexico : (4.I use VICKS topically as much as I can. 5.I use a humidifier at night 6.I drink lots of water. Good L

Progressive hearing loss, constant pain in the ears and doctors don't have a clue. What to do next?

Hearing loss: Not sure whether you have seen an ENT surgeon. If you have such symptoms, you may have menier's syndrome, otosclerosis, acoustic neuroma - these need to be ruled out. See an ENT surgeon.

Ask the Dr: The doctor who prescribed for you is the best one to provide a diagnosis and prognosis. Ask for as much info as possible including recommendations for the best possible treatment expectations. Referrals are also a good idea - for second opinions and emotional support.

How would an ENT doctor know that I have the diagnosis sudden sensory neural hearing loss SSNHL vs. Just my tinnitus getting worse?

How would an ENT doctor know that I have the diagnosis sudden sensory neural hearing loss SSNHL vs. Just my tinnitus getting worse?

Hearing test: Tinnitus is a perceived noise, caused by hearing loss. Sensorineural hearing loss is actual hearing g loss, diagnosed through hearing tests. The SUDDEN part of the diagnosis is based on the timing of your symptoms.

Sir I m suffering from hearing loss. There is a hole in my ear drum. Doc told me. Will it automatically repair? Or not then what steps I will do?

Sir I m suffering from hearing loss. There is a hole in my ear drum. Doc told me. Will it automatically repair? Or not then what steps I will do?

Depends: If it's a recent traumatic perforation then the likelihood of healing spontaneously is high within 6 weeks. If it doesn't heal then it will need repair. Depending on the size of the hole repair can be anywhere from simple to complex. You should have an ENT doctor following you.
