Had a clear MRI after a diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia. What could this mean? Tegretol XR 400mg twice a day has significantly reduced pain flares.
DX=Trigeminal Neural: A clean MRI (with contrast) simply means there is no obvious INTRACRANIAL explanation to your diagnosis of TN. But there are certain assumptions being here such as if you for sure HAVE neuralgia and not NEUROPATHY which can sometimes be mistaken. Have you had a neurological examination? Triennial neuralgia: treament with carbamazepine does not usually require a titration ( yes you will be a bit dizzy for 2 days ) start with 300 twice a day and go up to 400 twice a day as needed.
