Early is better: Since paps are used to find cervical cancer, then it would be good to start when risk of cancer is high - usually at start of sexual intercourse. However, cancer can also start without papilloma virus, so starting late teen/college age would be good. The pap should be part of regular pelvic and sexual health matters. ...Read more

Depends: Screening for colon cancer should begin at age 50 in patients not at identified risk. Colonoscopy every ten years ( or sooner depending upon findings) or fecal occult blood testing annually are both acceptable methods of screening for cancer. Sigmoidoscopy is also a possible option, but i personally do not favor it. See http://www.Uspreventiveservicestaskforce.Org. ...Read more

When do you get regular mammograms? Breast cancer does not run in my family, but i want to make sure i'm doing everything to stay in good health. At what age do you recommend women start getting mammograms?
Currently, : Currently, at our institution we recommend that a woman with no risk factors begin yearly screening mammography at age 40. However, the recommendation for beginning screening mammography has become more controversial due to the recently published recommendations by the us preventative services task force which recommends screening mammography for women age 50 to 74 years. A rationale behind this recommendation is that screening mammography in women age 40 - 49 years results in more false positive results with comparatively few cancers detected. Currently, both the american college of radiology and the american cancer society recommend yearly screening beginning at 40 years of age. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Can I still request to get the HPV vaccine after age 26? I don't see how it would suddenly not work after age 26
Yes: Vaccines and medications have age ranges that are approved by the FDA (government agency). The age ranges are based on the research studies, which means the effects of Gardasi vaccine after age 26 are less known, unknown, less safe, etc... A person can always request a vaccine, and many doctors will say NO, but some will say YES. It would be "off label", so it would be self-pay (not insurance). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
