If the two huge veins under your tongue got cut would it be fatal? And is it normal for them to be literally popping out?

If the two huge veins under your tongue got cut would it be fatal? And is it normal for them to be literally popping out?

Sublingual veins: If they were cut and no pressure was applied, it is possible you could hemorrhage significantly from that area. It is possible that you could die from uncontrolled hemorrhage in that area. However, the description of them being prominent or popping out is completely normal. That is the way they appear. Any questions, see an ENT to evaluate. ...Read more

Hard very sm salivary gland stick up and is painful when i press the underside of jaw doesn't happen on other side of mouth though what can this be?

Blocked duct: I will give you one of many possibilities. The salivary gland empties into your mouth through a duct.If anything blocks the duct the saliva will back up. Trauma or a calcium "stone" can block it. You can try to reopen by sucking on sour sugarless hard candy for a day. Not going to harm anything. If you have any doubts check with your physician or dentist. ...Read more

I am experiencing sever jaw (tissue & bone), gland, throat, and entire inside of mouth pain. Is this normal for 2nd day after 5 impacted teeth removal?

Normal: Usually the third day after surgery is the worst and then it starts to get better. Bone removal that is necessary for the extraction of impacted teeth causes pain and swelling. Antibiotics are probably good idea. Rinsing with very warm salt water is very helpful. Applying heat, like with a heating pad, helps a lot. ...Read more

Dry mouth, lips, throat. Knee/shoulder pain. Negative Ro/SS-A, La/SS-B and ANA and Rosa bengal test. Normal US parotid gland. Can still be Sjogren?

Dry mouth, lips, throat. Knee/shoulder pain. Negative Ro/SS-A, La/SS-B and ANA and Rosa bengal test. Normal US parotid gland. Can still be Sjogren?

Yes: Stop the phenylbutazone as this can cause an aplastic anemia. Make sure your thyroid function tests are normal as well. That said, you can treat the dry eyes with meds suck as Salagen or Evoxac (cevimeline) and see if they help. Dry mouth alone makes Sjogrens unlikely but still possible, even with negative blood tests. In this situation, a lip biopsy can be helpful. ...Read more

TMJ : Your description sounds like the condyle (part of the lower jaw that is part of the TMJ apparatus) may not be moving smoothly. If your lower jaw deviates from a straight line when opening, it would suggest a TMJ disorder, which could be from a number of different causes. Whether or not any treatment is indicated or not depends on you and any additional symptoms. ...Read more

Very nervous about the swollen saliva gland I have on one side under tongue. Doesn't hurt, it's just bigger on that side. going to make an appt :( ?

Good idea.: It may be nothing but a blocked salivary gland. Stop any drying medications you may be taking like decongestants (sudafed, afrin, (oxymetazoline) etc). Drink more fluids (without caffeine or calories), suck on lemon drops to make more saliva and keep your appointment. ...Read more

Can a blocked saliva gland affect tongue movement?

Can a blocked saliva gland affect tongue movement?

No: A blockage - usually a stone from a condition called sialadenitis - can cause local irritation and even mild local swelling. But your tongue movement would not be affected. You can suck on lemon drops and see if that removes the stone. A firm or hard swelling that affects tongue movement needs to be checked right away for possible tumor mass. Hope that helps. ...Read more

8 wks pregnant and my mouth is sooooo dry I feel like I don't have saliva glands!! Any tips to help? Is this normal?

Unusual: most of my patients who are pregnant, seem to complain of the exact opposite, where they are salivating excessively. However we don't fully know the effects of pregnancy on the salivary glands. For you this could be normal. You may just need to give it time. However if this is associated with dry eyes dry skin, stiffness, painful and sensitive digits then you might want to be examined ...Read more
