Does gatorade cause protein in urine? I took a urine sample today and my doctor told me to stop drinking it. What are other causes of high protein?

Confusing!: Gatorade isn't a protein drink. Protein drinks do not cause protein in the urine. I've not heard of gatorade, which is convenient electrolytes in water, causing proteinuria. Misunderstanding? The most common cause of protein in the urine is some people who get this from standing -- check the first-voided morning urine. If it's up, your physician will want to check further. ...Read more

My daughter is 12, she had a 24 hour urine sample tested and it showed her proteins to be 195, should be 150, what does this mean?, is this bad?

See below: It depends on her activity during the time that the urine was collected. Vigorous activity increases the protein excreted in urine. That is a very modest increase in the amount of protein in urine. If a blood test of kidney function (serum creatinine) is normal, and she is otherwise normal, I would suggest doing nothing except repeating the test in 6 months. ...Read more

Trace of protein in urine what does that mean? The dr said its nothing to worry about.

Trace of protein in urine what does that mean? The dr said its nothing to worry about.

Trace of protein: You need to have a 24 h hour urine collection to see how much protein in your urine/day. Protein excretion by a diseased kidney is not constant, rather it is sporadic over 24 hours. That is why a 24 hour collection will tell you if your proteinuria is a problem or not. See your physician and see if you can have that test ordered. Good luck. ...Read more
