Could be significant: Your presenting syptom is not described in detail---how frequent? How long it last? Does the same happen after you sleep or bend over? ---the question has to do with increase pressure of spinal fluid when you cough---i want to rule out chiari malformation or pseudotumour cerebri--may need MRI if symptom is always consistent. ...Read more

Headaches can be: Difficult to diagnose. Do you have pain, upper back or history of headaches or is this new. Are you sleeping at night, ? One possible reason is teeth clinching or grinding at night called bruxism, while flexing back the head. This can increase with stress and become a cycle. Clonazepam at time of sleep can help. Not normal: But it doesn't necessarily mean that it's life-threatening. It likely is from a muscle spasm of the temporalis muscle, the big muscle at either side of the head. This can be related to stress or bruxism (grinding your teeth) or temporomandibular joint issues (the joint of your jaw). Migraine: Sounds like a migraine type of headache. Throbbing headaches typically have a vascular origin, but can also happen with tension type headaches as well. I notice that you're taking meds for hypertension and if not well controlled, this can also lead to headaches. Make sure you're taking your meds and checking your bp.
