U may have some arth: U may very well have some minor arthritis in ur neck & tspine. Coughing is quite violent if severe and increased intradickal pressures rise, as well as some flex/ext 2 these areas also. If it goes away when ur cough stops no worry. Normal anatomy: This is a very frequent question and for most patients, the "knot" at the base of the neck is normal anatomy - the spinous processes of C7 and t1 are larger than the adjacent spinous processes, which gives the illusion of a knot.
