Eustachian tube: Your eustachian tube may be partially blocked leading to a painless pop & crack when swallowing (similar to sensation when driving up/down mountain or airplane takeoff/landing). Not sure: There is a small nerve that travels from the ear canal (deep) area to the tongue that if it's mobility is altered somehow may cause some pain that is percieved to be comeing from your ear. Also, as you swallow, the pressure gradient can change in your middle ear and if there is inflammation present or a significant change in pressure, it may cause pain / soreness. I recommend seeing an ENT doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Pressure change: When you open wide, a muscle called the levator palitini stretches out the tube that connects the middle ear to your throat. That makes sure it opens wide to let air enter the middle ear. Air movement equalizes the vacuum created when your middle ear skin absorbs oxygen from its air. It is a simple benign process. If it doesn't bother you ignore it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I hear swishing sound on my right ear especially when i lay down i can hear my heart beating when i hear the swishing sound on my ears.
Is : Is this new or has it been around for a long time? Hearing your heart beat in your ear can be normal--the carotid artery and the jugular vein are directly next to the ear and the pulsations can transmit to the hearing aparatus of the ear. Other things that can cause it are inflammation in the ear (very common), high blood pressure (common), atherosclerosis in the carotid artery (common), high venous pressure, high intracranial pressures (too much cerebrospinal fluid)(rare), vascular tumors in the ear (rare). Basically, it can sometimes be a variant of normal, or it can be a symptom of inflammation or vascular problems. I see it fairly often in my clinic and very rarely is it anything that is concerning, but it should be seen if it persists or is accompanied by other symptoms. ...Read more

Air pressure: There is a small connection between your nose and ear called Eustacian Tube. Blowing the nose allows some air pressure changes to happen and the feeling of popping in ear results. This is usually a good thing as it keeps the inner ear inflated. Scuba divers use this technique to help pressure build up in their ears. ...Read more
Eustacian tube prob: The eustacian tube allows air to go from the mouth or sinuses into the ear so that the pressure behind the ear drum can equilibrate. When the tube gets plugged (ie from a cold, allergies, or sinus congestion) the air has trouble equilbrating and people feel a pop, similar to when they are flying or changing altitude. That is just the pressure difference behind the ear drum. ...Read more

Burps and ear pain: The eustachian tubes connect the middle ear spaces to the back of the throat and allow us to equalize the air pressure in our ears. The tubes open when we swallow or yawn or if you do a valsalva maneuver (hold your nose and try to blow it - you'll feel your ears pop). My guess is that you opened your eustachian tube when you burped but the congestion prevented full pressure equalization. ...Read more

It can get "clogged off" for several reasons such as a cold or allergies. Many times it will resolve on its own.
