When Do I Ovulate After A Positive Opk
How is LH hormone produced? Is it necessary to have a growing follicle to have an LH surge? How often does ovulation occur after a positive OPK ?
LH: LH is made in the anterior pituitary, it takes a whole book chapter to explain how. It is necessary to have a threshold Estradiol level to have an LH surge, so practically speaking it is necessary to have a follicle. It is unknown for certain how often ovulation occurs after surge, but conservatively it is likely at least 95% of the time. ...Read more
Ovulation prediction: Ovulation predictor kits (opk) predict when you will ovulate. When you detect the first positive that means you will ovulate within the next 24 hours. That means ovulation takes place next day after positive test. Once you see the first positive, you don't need to continue checking as the test will stay positive for 2 days then turn negative again. ...Read more
It's possible: If you are using clomid, (clomiphene) you may get false positive's if done to early in the cycle. You should also do BBT charting to assure you are testing at the right time. When your BBT drops then suddenly rises, that it the time of greatest chance of ovulation and thus the time to repeat the OPK test. ...Read more
Yes: Although it is not common, it is possible. For women with decrease ovarian reserve, sometime ovulation can occur even earlier. The reason that happen is due to elevated fsh level, which stimulate follicle growth and ovulation occurs earlier than the mid of the cycle. But for you, if that only happen occationally, should not cause concern. ...Read more

I got opk positive at CD 13 and peak at 14th and i got my opk negative on my 15th evening.did i ovulated?
Is it possible to ovulate on cd12 or 13 having slippery CM on cd 11 positive opks cd 11&12 then cd 12 having sticky cm?
Every month I have positive opk 7-10ish and then again like on 14-18. (just a example) do I ovulate 2 times? Which one do I trust?
OPKs: These just measure urinary leutinizing hormone. Take the number of days from start of one period to start of next and divide in half and count from day one of your period and start checking your OPKs 2-3 days before that day. Once you have a positive, you are likely ovulating in 24 hours. Save the left over kits for the next cycle. ...Read more
I tested positive for a peak OPK on nov. 11th but did not see any CM until nov. 14th. Does this mean i did not ovulate until the 14th?
Three days in a row of positive opks (nondigital). Temp didn't spike until two days after the THIRD day of pos opk. When did I ovulate?
Not specific: The spike noted in the urine is the LH surge, which occurs about 24 hours before ovulation. The temp change is very non-specific and can be affected by a lot of things. You can probably look back to see when ovulation occurred by when your period starts, which should be 14 days after you ovulate. ...Read more
OPK test & ferning positive yesterday. OPK test positive, but no ferning today. What does this mean? What is estimated time of ovulation?
I had a two positive opks on CD12 and 13, followed by higher bbtemps to confirm ovulation. Now i am again getting positive opks on CD19,20,21. Why?
As expected: You stop doing ovulation kits after it turns positive because it will stay positive for awhile. If you are having regular periods and your ovulation tests show you are ovulating there is simply no value or utility in repeating them. Once you get a positive result then stop checking for that cycle. The hormone it detects lingers. ...Read more
I had a positive OPK on the 21st. The test lines started fading and now they're getting darker again. Is it possible to ovulate twice in one month?
Rarely but yes: Rarely this can occur, but the problem then is that the lining of the uterus might not be most favorable for successful implantation. ...Read more
Positive OPK yesterday w clearblue digital negative today. And I still ovulating or is it over? Lines still strong on reg opks but neg on clearblue
Yes to ovulation: Ovulation is a series of events and not just a single point in time. The initiating event is a sharp upward spike in LH levels (that's what the OPK measures). It's okay if the signal is negative the following day. The process has started and you have a chance to conceive. ...Read more
Hello.BBT shows ovulation at cd12, temp much higher since.OPK positive cd13.On cd12 OPKs were darker than usual,still negative.Which should I trust?Tx
Regularity of cycle: OPK detects LH surge which occurs in several circumstances like periovulation. Temperature rises when progesterone rise. Both occur around ovulation. The best test for ovulation is cycle regularity. Most women with regular cycles ovulate 14 days prior to their menstrual period. This is a retrospective diagnosis. If a women is regular 28 days ovulation occurs day 14, if 30 days regular then day 16. ...Read more
Not accurate: Odk are a good way to predict ovulation. Once the kit is positive, ovulation or the release of the egg occurs 26-40 hours later. Although generally accurate, the odk can sometimes have a false negative- you ovulated but the kit does not show it. Sometimes using another kit works or there is always the possibility that you are not ovulating. 3% of women have regular cycles but do not ovulate. ...Read more
Not always accurate: Odks are a convenient way to help time ovulation and the timing of intercourse, they are not always accurate. They can occasionally be positive but other more accurate signs of ovulation, like ultrasound, Progesterone levels and endometrial biopsy indicate that you did not ovulate. Mostly, however, when positive, odks indicate ovulation. May want to try a different odk or other tests for ovulation. ...Read more
Trust the pain: I would err on trusting the pain. But, if you are trying to get pregnant the issue is not the specific day, but getting sperm into the vagina on the five days before ovulation. So, whether ovulation occurs on the 21st or 22nd, you should be getting exposed to sperm on the 16th through the 22nd. ...Read more
OPK is not hPT: OPK were never intended to be used as a pregnancy test: the correct use of OPK is to start early and discontinue after it is positive. A hPT is accurate about 12 days after ovulation and is more accurate for pregnancy at this early time. You don't say "when" in cycle you are testing so I can't comment further, but likely it's not pregnancy. Good wishes. ...Read more
Does an OPK shows a positive LH surge even during ovulation? If not, how much time before ovulation LH drops.

Ovulate once: Home ovulation tests actually detect a hormone called LH and not ovulation. If one ovulates they only ovulate once. If they results of a home ovulation kit are not giving you reliable result then you will need to schedule a midluteal phase Progesterone blood test to determine if ovulation is occurring or not. ...Read more
3 nearly positive OPKs the last three days. Ovulation pain also.
Would this mean I'm ovulating or nearly ovulating?
Yes and no: Ovulation occurs usually within 36 hours of the first test turning positive. So, it doesn't matter how many turn positive, the first one counts. Depending on the test, I'm not sure what "nearly positive' means, but the hormone that those tests check for does not gradually increase. It's a sudden spike. I'm guessing that you have already ovulated, and the first "nearly," was positive. ...Read more
Is there possibly an issue if my basal temperature rise (indicating ovulation) occurs 4 days after my first positive opk?
Got a + OPK on cycle day 8. Went to do a preg test but picked up a opk by accident and it's super positive. Am I ovulating again?
No: If someone ovulated during a menstrual cycle they will not ovulate again later in the same cycle. Ovulation tests can be useful for some people. For others they are better off seeing a doctor to have blood Progesterone testing done to confirm ovulation. If you use them it is important to follow the package instructions otherwise you may get confusing results. ...Read more
Once you get a neg OPK for LH surge following a positive does that mean ovulation has finished. How long can you see positive OPK after ov?
OPK: An OPK is a test that measures luteinizing hormone. Just prior to ovulation, women experience a short surge where the lh levels rise. The OPK will help you pinpoint this surge and help you predict when you will ovulate. It rise the day before ovulation and does not stay high very long. ...Read more
I know that i ovulated on cycle day 13 due to positve OPK and basal body temp. I also got positive opks on cycle day 18, 19, and 20. Why?
False positives: That should not happen. Unless you are taking HCG shots at the time. Usually that means you have a naturally elevated lh level. It also likely means the kits wont work very well for you in general. ...Read more
Dec 9th was the last day i had ewcm. And dec 6th got a close positive on OPK but ran out so i didn't retest. So is it possible i ovulated on the 9th?
Possible: If you are planning a pregnancy, make sure you are taking prenatal vitamins. Also, i see that you have listed misprostol as a medication. You should not be taking that if you are trying to get pregnant. See your doctor to discuss what is safe in pregnancy. Also, a baby costs a lot more than an opk, so if money is tight, consider contraception for now. ...Read more
