When Can Wrist Plate Screws Removal
How long after surgery to fix a fractured wrist plate and screw fixation can you drive a manual car?
Hi, I have wrist pain. Had 3 plates & 6 screws put in it in 08 after a motorcycle accident. Never had trouble with it till now. R screws coming out?
How can you treat pain from a surgery you had 12 years ago that resulted in two screws in both wrists, the kneecap and an ankle growth plate?
See you doctor: First of all, if you are 40 and had surgery 12 years ago the growth plate in your ankle was long closed. My recommendation would be to see an orthopedic doctor and see why and where the pain is coming from. Obviously after 12 years the original surgeries are healed. The screws can be causing issues, you may have a meniscus tear, and or traumatic arthritis. That's why you need to get evaluated ASAP ...Read more
Are there any long term effects on wrist or hand of surgically fixed (plates and screws) proximal fractures in both ulna and radius of same forearm?
Possibly: The long term effects are related more to the fracture itself, rather than the paltes and scews. In normal wrist motion the radius bone rotates around the ulna bone, so a fracture tio either bone can cause a deformity which can limit this rotation. ...Read more

Getting a hollow screw taking out of my wrist and carpal tunnel release on the 8th of April. What happens when they take the screw out? First time 4me
Removing bone screw: After the anesthetic and the exposure is like a screw in any solid substance. Except can be overlying tissue or bone that the surgeon has to remove. A screw hole in healthy good bone is expected to fill in over several months. Depending upon the location of the screw the surgeon may recommend a splint or temporary alteration of activity but that is very individualized. Ask you surgeon more ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I had a broken elbow repaired May 29th which involved a plate and 10 screws. My hand and fingers are still swollen even though I am exercising?
Swelling post-op: Some swelling post operatively is normal, even after 1 month. Increased exercise may increase swelling if the exercises are too strenuous and taxing on the elbow. Be sure to be going to a Physical therapist post op who is trained in this sort of procedure and post-op care and rehabilitative services. Each person is different, so it is imperative for continuity of care you follow-up with surgeon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have plates and screws in my hand (metacarpals). I recently noticed a bump where my hardware. Is it a problem? There were some complications with the accident such as blood clots if that helps at all. I have tried the r.I.C.E method to and also an anti
The timing makes all the difference. As a fracture is healing, it lays down abundant new bone, called callus. Over time, the bone will remodel and the bump will go down. The callus usually forms within a couple of months, but can take over a year to remodel.
If the bump came on suddenly and was associated with severe pain, then you may have a hardware failure. If the bone doesn't heal, the metal will fatigue, sort of like bending a paperclip until it breaks. Once the bone heals, it absorbs the forces around the metal and repairs itself.
I would talk to your surgeon and have the area evaluated and x-rayed. ...Read more
Depends: It is not unusual to notice a lump over your surgical site after a repair of a hand fracture. This is usually part of the normal inflammatory response. If it has been a while and you can still feel your hardware, you need to decide how much it bothers you. Occasionally, if there is palpable hardware, some surgeons will go back to remove it if it is causing problems. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I broke my 4th metacarpal in my right hand right on top of where a pin was already screwed in. (Its not completely broken) Do I need a surgery?
Interference.: Not all broken bones have to have surgery for satisfactory healing. Having said that, if it is determined that the pin inserted during a previous procedure has the potential to interfere or even prevent proper healing of the current fracture, then surgery is entirely possible. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Put hand sanitizer on outside of cheese while still sealed w/ plastic. Went to eat some & it tasted like hand sanitizer.19 w preg. Could it hurt baby?
Minimal ingestion: I think you will be fine; obviously there are no studies on this to guarantee the lack of harm, but it's highly unlikely with such a small amount. The only known harm is likely the small amount of alcohol in the sanitizer, but your pregnancy is so far enough along that this should not matter. Relax. It's going to be fine. ...Read more
Depends: Generally, the screws or pins or plates are meant to be left in. No reason to remove unless causing problems. They can break, move, elicit an unexpected reaction from the body [they are a foreign object and the body may recognize them as such. If no problems, they are best left in. ...Read more
Why am I so paranoid about germs? Wherever I go I take massive bottles of hand sanitizer, hand wipes and plastic bags to put the wipes in.
OCD: Sounds like you have a touch of obsessive-compulsive disorder. This is a medical/psychiatric condition where your body perceives an increased risk of harm (in your case from germs), so your body is trying to protect itself. This abnormal thought process can often be managed with medication, therapy or a combination of both. Treatment can be very effective! ...Read more
