It depends on the amount of alcohol intake, other disorders, e, g. hepatitis C or chronic hepatitis B, iron deposition, nutritional status of the person and genetic susceptibility. Alcohol is a poison and it never did anybody any good. So rather than trying to titerate you intake, abstain entirely.

Until you are sober: I would not recommend taking xanax (alprazolam) at all, until you're completely sober and you have been prescribed this by your physician.
